Today we will share some information on keeping your lawn and landscaping safe during winter.

7 Ways to Keep Your Lawn and Landscaping Safe in Winter

Winter is on its way. Keep your lawn and landscaping safe with these simple tips!

1.       Aerate and fertilize your lawn

Just before winter may seem like an odd time to aerate and fertilize your lawn, as the grass won’t be growing during the winter time. But by doing this task before winter sets in, the fertilizer and its benefits will be there and ready as soon as warm weather returns.

2.       Rake your lawn

Some people wait to rake until all the leaves have fallen from the trees. This enables dead leaves to kill the grass beneath, so always rake every couple of days. Don’t let leaves build up too long, as you may be surprised by a snowfall, and never see them again until you’re shoveling them up come spring and the first thaw!

3.       Cut your grass short

There are many types of grass, and during its growing season, each of these types has an optimum length to stay healthy – cut it any shorter and it stresses the grass. Want to know how tall you should let your particular grass grow in summer? Ask  Chris! Proper grass height will help protect the new growth of grass when spring arrives.

4.       Mulch your trees and flower beds

In order to protect the roots of your perennial flowers, plants and trees, apply a good thick layer of mulch – about two inches. This helps to prevent erosion, and keep the temperature around the roots stable. Some trees don't do well with mulch so if you're not sure, you can always ask Chris.

5.       Wrap evergreens with burlap

You’ve protected their roots by mulching. Don’t forget to protect the rest of each tree. Evergreens look beautiful in winter, but don’t subject them to the moisture-robbing wind. Wrapping them in burlap will help.

6.       Check your tree branches

It’s best to be proactive. Investigate each of the trees on your property and prune any that are weak or dead.

7.       Be gentle to your trees

After every snow fall, each individual branch of a tree will be bearing several inches of snow. Rather than shaking the branches to knock off the snow – which may result in breaking off the branch! – brush the snow off carefully.

Repel Fleas, Mites, Mosquitoes and Ticks from Your Yard

Autobugg™ Cedar Systems has an innovative solution. In fact, it is a solution. The AutoBugg Irrigation Injection Unit works in conjunction with a home irrigation system to repel fleas, mites, mosquitoes and ticks.

Cedar oil, also called cedarwood oil, is produced from the foliage, and sometimes the wood of trees in the pine and cedar families. This oil makes an excellent bactericide and pesticide.

The AutoBugg™ system, connected to an automatic sprinkler system, creates a protective scent barrier around a home. With repetitive applications and the proper coverage, the AutoBugg™ Injection system provides a safe, all-natural way to rid a property of these annoying, not to say potentially dangerous insects.

We are very excited to offer this natural and safe anti-mosquito system that hooks up right to the irrigation system you already have installed!
