ABE MA Newsletter July 2021
Happy 4th of July from the ABE Massachusetts Team!
We hope that you all have had a chance to relax now that the school year is over.  Although we do not have a traditional summer PDI planned, there is some fun in the pipeline!
Update on 2021 Summer PDI

This summer, ABE MA will not be hosting a traditional professional development workshop. Trust us, we want to see you! With Harvard slated to open fully in August, we hope to hold an on-campus PD this fall. Hang tight. You'll be subjected to Alia's science puns soon.

ABE MA Scheduling for the
2021 - 2022 Program Year

Though our operations were minimal during the 2020 - 2021 program year, we supported over 25 teachers and 1000 students in full or hybrid ABE implementation. As we plan to re-enter our labs and our classrooms, we are optimistic that teachers and students will once again participate in the ABE Program. That said, the ABE MA Scheduling Survey for the 2021 - 2022 Program Year is open.

How can you advance equity and justice through science teaching?
Inequities are built into the systems of science education such that “students of color, students who speak first languages other than English, and students from low-income communities… have had limited access to high-quality, meaningful opportunities to learn science.” Intersecting equity projects can guide the teaching and learning of science towards social justice. Science educators who engage in these projects help advance Indigenous self-determination (details) and racial justice by confronting the consequences of legacies of injustice and promoting liberatory approaches to education.
