I am thrilled to share with you this 8-minute video excerpt of an interview of choreographer and Continuum teacher Robin Becker (Into Sunlight, 2011). She speaks from experience about dealing with dancers' initial resistance to Continuum, discovering the underlying language of dance, and the roles of feeling and logic in the making of art. Whether you are an artist, performer or student of the arts, or if you simply yearn for more creativity in your life, you will find something precious to take with you on your way.
In this message, too, Watermarks welcomes three new dance artists, all members of Robin Becker Dance. You can read their personal statements here and visit their online galleries on our website to see more photos.
On Saturday, May 5 @ 5 pm, you have a chance to see these artists as well as others in live performance, when Watermark Arts inaugurates Holly's Barn, a beautiful new space in New Canaan, CT. Join us! See the flier below for more details.
Celebrating the arrival of spring,
Artistic Director, Watermark Arts
"As an innate mover, I have always been drawn to the healing and transformative aspects of movement. Being introduced to Continuum movement from my dance mentor, Robin Becker has truly guided me to a deeper understanding of my own mind, body, and spirit. Through this somatic study and inquiry, I have become a more expansive performer, accessing breath in my body and imagery in my mind as I dance."
"When I was introduced to the practice of Continuum it immediately helped me find an openness in parts of my own body that have always been difficulty for me to access and articulate. It also provides a meditative quality that allows a deepening of the knowledge of my own body. I look forward to widening my experience with Continuum as it proves to be advantageous for me both as a professional mover but also as a human being living in a stressful society."
"My introduction to Continuum resulted in a new understanding of the way in which the body moves and functions. As an integral component of the work I am privileged to take part in, it has truly changed how I move and heightened my sensitivity to my own inner landscape. As a therapist it benefits my work in connecting and listening to my clients on a physical and energetic level."
