Every year DC Public Schools conducts a nationwide search for the best principals to lead our schools. To deliver a high-‐quality education to all students, it takes a strong school leader who is laser focused on raising student achievement, while also ensuring the school community is a welcoming, safe and enjoyable place for all.
Astounding advances are possible when the right principal is leading a school. Many of you have engaged in the principal selection process for Eliot Hine by examining the candidates and sharing your feedback with me, and I sincerely appreciate your time and efforts on behalf of our students.
After balancing your input and feedback with the needed experience and skills that research links to success, we concluded that Marlene Magrino is the strongest candidate to lead the Eliot Hine school community. We are happy to report that Ms. Magrino has accepted the offer to be the Eliot Hine School principal. Her official appointment begins on June 25, 2018.
Marlene Magrino moved to the District of Columbia almost 15 years ago to continue her career in education as a teacher with the Washington Middle School for Girls. After serving as their campus director, she moved on to become a resident and assistant principal for the DC Preparatory Academy. In 2014, Ms. Magrino co-‐founded Monument Academy Public Charter School where she served as principal for 3 years. She holds a bachelor’s degree from American University and a master’s degree in educational administration from Trinity University. Ms.Magrino believes that building relationships and establishing a shared vision with clear goals are the most important first steps in moving a school towards proficiency.
I want to thank everyone who participated in the principal selection process, especially the school community panel that interviewed a number of qualified candidates. Ms. Magrino is excited to meet all of you, and I hope you will give her your warm welcome and support as she works with you to lead your children toward success.
