New AIA CT Award

This award honors the climate change initiatives of AIA Connecticut and  Connecticut Passive House to secure a more sustainable and environmentally thriving future by recognizing the efforts of licensed architects who have developed and demonstrated ways to decrease Green House Gases, reduce energy use and demand, and conserve water use in the built or unbuilt environment.

Equally important is the creation of durable, comfortable and healthy spaces. The award attempts to raise the public awareness of the current climate crisis and the massive role played by construction, maintenance, and operations of the built environment.

Passive House: What's it Worth? | iPHA Community Meet Up

June 1 @ 3:00 - 4:30 PM

"The benefits of Passive House are well-known but the costs remain a mystery to many.  This presentation looks at the design changes required to achieve the Passive House standard and their cost implications...  What is the premium for airtightness?  How do builders price risk?  Find out on this journey of a single-family home from traditional solar to certified Passive House."

The Financial Case for Healthy, High Performance Buildings

June 3 @ 1:00 - 2:00 PM

"A macro-look at the business case for wellness in the built environment, new quantitative research on the business case for human-centric design, and leading project case studies of innovative next-gen buildings with significant demonstrated financial returns."

PH Is Your Unicorn

June 4 @ 12:00 - 1:00 PM

"How the Passive House standard is flexible and adaptable to meet your project’s and client’s needs.  The presentation will focus on a comparison between our Cornell Tech, Sendero Verde, University of Toronto Scarborough, and Winthrop Square projects."

Building In & Building Out: Lessons Learned from Deep Energy Retrofits

June 4 @ 2:00 - 3:00 PM

Maine Passive House (MPH) has used two different strategies in retrofitting existing homes. One involves adding insulation to the outside of the building, the other is to add insulation to the inside. Most projects involve a mix of the two ... MPH has two residential retrofits (close to PH standard) and one commercial retrofit. They will use case studies to discuss lessons learned from the field.

Building Passive with Ken Levenson | Radio BE-Ex

June 4 @ 2:00 - 3:00 PM

"The increasing influence of Passive House in the building industry has led to renewed interest in a host of building materials, from high performance windows to innovative air and moisture control systems, to insulation with very low embodied carbon.  Ken Levenson of 475 Building Supply joins our host to discuss the application of these newly available materials and what other new materials or systems we might expect in the near future."

Passive House, CLT, and Airtightness for Multifamily Buildings

June 4 @ 2:00 - 3:00 PM

"Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) use is growing rapidly in Europe, and gaining traction across the US and Canada.  While CLT provides many benefits, the panels cannot be relied on to provide airtightness, particularly at the joints or where edges may crack.  Using building science and practical design knowledge, we can achieve long-lasting airtightness, comfort, and moisture control in CLT structures."
