Staying Connected

Two Important Worship Updates

Greetings St. Andrew!

Allow me to briefly share two updates, the first regarding online worship and the second related to in-person worship.
  1. On-line worship moves to two separate services (8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.) beginning Sunday, May 31.
We have used a single blended-music service since our sheltering in place orders.  As we make the transition back towards in-person worship, we will begin offering a traditional service at 8:30 a.m. and a contemporary service at 10 a.m. Each service should last 45-50 minutes. Both services will feature the same Scripture lesson, Message, and Children’s Message.
  1. In-person worship services will not begin June 14.
A representative team of church leaders met this past week to determine when to begin gathering again for worship. Team consensus was that the uncertainty related to the growing number of Covid-19 cases in our area as well as the breadth of hygiene related considerations made the June 14 date untenable as a best starting date.

The team will be unveiling a multistage approach to regather us soon which honors a number of agendas: our desire to be in worship together; our desire to be in compliance with CDC best practices and state guidelines; and our practical needs to prepare for safe entrance, live participation in worship and use of other spaces (e.g. bathrooms), and departure of worshipers as well as cleaning in-between a multi-service Sunday.

We are well aware of the love so many have for each other and the joy of being community in person on Sunday mornings. But we want to proceed with caution for just a little longer. We appreciate your understanding and patience.

Worship Service at 10 a.m. on May 24

Watch our online worship services on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. We have two options for viewing the service:
  1. Livestream
  2. Facebook Live
Both options will connect you to a live stream of the same service. Connect to the service a little before 10 a.m. so you will be ready when the worship starts.

The following information should help you prepare for the service. The scripture and song lyrics can be found by clicking on the links below.

College Scholarship Deadline June 1

The church is offering two $500 scholarships for the coming school year. Any undergraduate or graduate students may apply and can be in any year of their education. The scholarship is available to those attending any institution of higher education including Ivy Tech. Click on the link at the bottom of this email to apply. The deadline is fast approaching so apply today!

The student must also provide a recent official transcript. Please send the transcript to Janet Dietz at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 4703 N 50 W, West Lafayette, IN 47906.

The funds for these scholarships were provided by Loraine Edwards. Loraine was an active, long-time member of St. Andrew who volunteered at the church every week until a year before her death at age 107.
A link to Ron Steuterman's obituary is provided here. Please continue to pray for Erika, Erin, and Jessie.
