Submissions

Theatre Creators' Reserve (Acting Up Stage Company)

Theatre Creators’ Reserve is a program that assists Ontario-based professional theatre creators, and informal collectives of creators, by funding them to create new work.

Acting Up Stage Company says: "Priority would be given to works that use music to illuminate the human condition, where the music is integral to the emotional journey of the character and the storytelling. As well, as a collaborative art form with complex and intricate craft required for each discipline involved, preference is given to musical theatre works written by teams who each specialize in a particular area (e.g. book, music, lyrics) rather than a single artist who attempts all three components."

Seeking Collaborators
CMTWC member Catherine Hume is seeking collaborators to help her finish a musical that grew out of a Music Creation grant (TAC) and an Emerging Playwright's grant (also TAC). She has started on the book, the lyrics, and the music, but needs "musical minds" and is also seeking "the perspective of an experienced bookwriter." Send an email if you wish to pursue collaboration.
Productions
New Canadian musical "Come From Away," written by CMTWC members Irene Sankoff and David Hein, started previews in the newly renovated Royal Alexandra Theatre opened November 30 and runs until January 8, 2017, before transferring to Broadway. Visit the official website or Mirvish's website for tickets.
"Christmas Through the Ages," written by CMTWC member Julie Lyn Barber, plays at the Opera House Stage in  Hagerstown, IN, on December 16, 17, 18, and 23. Visit the Nettle Creek Players for tickets.
Workshops & Readings

Things We Did for Love
CMTWC member Scott White had a first public reading of "The Things We Did For Love" at Musical Chairs Toronto on November 13. The show explores the overlapping lives of 4 characters as witnessed by 2 outsiders on a night of passion and violence.

Dorian Drew
CMTWC member Colin Simmons had a first reading of "Dorian Drew" on November 30 with the new company collective. Based on a Brothers Grimm fairy-tale, the family musical follows young Dorian Drew on an adventure as she stands up to a greedy banker to save her father’s farm.
