Hooray for Our Partners!
We rescue fresh produce, meat, and bread from partners Hannaford and Shaw's, Rosemont, Lois' Natural, and Standard Baking Co. We receive thousands of pounds of additional produce each week from Good Shepherd Food Bank, along with staples like pasta, tomato sauce, rice, soup, milk, and applesauce.
With the help of our dedicated volunteers, we pack more than 2500 green produce and purple staples bags every month.

Helping Locker Project bags reach families in need are staff from nine Head Starts, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine, and Portland Housing Authority, along with teachers, nurses, and social workers in the public schools in Portland, South Portland, and Westbrook. This past week, we welcomed a new partner, LearningWorks YouthBuild.
Partner Spotlight: Head Start
In 2020, our partnership with The Opportunity Alliance (TOA) and Head Start grew by leaps and bounds. We started the year serving four Greater Portland locations and ending the year serving nine!
Each week since the pandemic began, TOA staff (family advocates, teachers, and home visitors) have come to the Locker Project to pick up bags of healthy food and deliver them to children's homes. All together, in 2020, we shared more than 28,000 pounds of fresh food and healthy staples with more than 100 Head Start families!

Community Food Drives
Neighbors, friends, churches, and workplaces can help us collect the kid-friendly foods we need for families to stay nourished this winter. During the month of December, community partners Definitive Brewing, Highroller Lobster Co., and Trademark Federal Credit Union all gathered healthy food for children and families at risk of hunger. Thank you!

Volunteer Spotlight
Marilyn Finley and Annie Wells have been friends for nearly 50 years, since attending Bates College together. Annie is a retired 4th-grade teacher, and Marilyn retired from UNUM in 2016. They heard about the Locker Project from other friends, began volunteering together as liaisons to the East End Community School in 2019, and now come to the Locker Project each week to pack bags of staples and catch up. Thank you, Annie and Marilyn!
