Dear Quilters,
I hope everyone had great holidays and time to spend with family and friends. The December Tea was a wonderful way to kick off the the Christmas season for me. Great friends, Laughter, Wonderful Treats, Review of 2022 Accomplishments and Beautiful Quilts!
NEW GUILD APPAREL ORDER!
This year marks our 40th Anniversary! So amazing! To celebrate this Ruby occasion, we offer a red, long sleeved, v-neck t-shirt and a charcoal zipper front jacket. These both have our logo on them. The shirts are $20.00 and the jackets are $35.00. These will be available in all sizes to be seen during the January and February meetings. Deadline to order is the February Meeting; available for pickup in March.
The President’s Challenge will be different this year and is two-fold. There are also two opportunities to share your projects. We will have a special exhibit at the quilt show and we want to see all your projects at the December Tea. More details on the website.
1. I am asking everyone to make something Red and White for our Ruby celebration! This can be anything...full quilts large or small, place mats, handbags, mug rugs, anything!
2. We would also love to have everyone make at least one 12” x 12” red and white block, quilted and bound into a 12" Mini Quilt. The block design is your choice. Please make sure to use fabrics with ONLY red and white, no other colors, even in small details.
Thanks for everything you do for the Guild. It would not be the same without you. Be sure to invite your friends - we have great speakers and it is a great time of sharing. I look forward to seeing you in January.
Mary Franck, 2023 DMAQG President

Newcomers
The Newcomers group is kicking off the new year with presentations by Emma Thomas-McGinnis and Paula Blake. Everyone is encouraged to make a nametag and wear it at our monthly Guild and Newcomers meetings. Emma will show some nametag patterns that are available on her personal (and beautiful) website, emmaleacreative.com. Emma will also speak about her role as the Newsletter Editor and Website Administrator for the guild. Paula Blake will talk about the work she has been doing on the guild’s Facebook and Facebook Group accounts.
Show-and-Tell will be held at each meeting, so plan to bring your projects (finished or unfinished) to share. This month we will also show examples of nametags, so if you have any nametags to share, be sure to bring them along.
Our next Newcomers meeting is:
January 17, 6:30 pm
West Des Moines Senior Center
136 6th Street, West Des Moines, IA 50265
Everyone is welcome!
Donita Fredricks – DMAQG Vice President

Community Giving / Education Outreach
RECEIVING BLANKETS FOR BROADLAWNS BIRTHING CENTER
Please help us to provide sweet little receiving blankets to new babies. For the next few months, stop by the Community Giving tables at a meeting to receive the flannel or use your own. Trim the blanket to a square, minimum 36" up to 41" square. Clean finish the edges with any technique you prefer. You may simply roll hem or crochet a pretty edge or add trim, such as ric rac. Return to any meeting when complete. Thank you for your efforts! Questions? Jill Reber mpquilt@aol.com 515-210-9930.
Many thanks to all of you for your generous donations in 2022! We are looking forward to a fantastic year in 2023.
We will have bundles for quilting and binding to hand out at the January guild meetings, as well as kits for making Kids Quilts, fat quarter bundles for twin size tops, and homespun bundles for our new Homespun Challenge. Please stop by and see us if you can help! We also will take your donations of finished quilts, placemats, pillowcases, quilt tops (lap size to twin size) and fabric.
We always have a collection of beautiful donated quilt tops ready for quilting and then binding. We provide the batting, backing and binding! We rely on our talented members to provide the quilting skill, either by long arm, or home machine. It’s a great way to practice your skills! Come see us at our table, or contact Carol Hendrick (hendrickca@mchsi.com) if you can help!
Finally, mark your calendars for Saturday, March 18th. It is National Quilting Day and we’ve reserved the Fellowship Hall at the WDMC church for a Community Charity Sew-In. We plan to have materials for making Kids Quilts and pillowcases, or you can bring your own charity item to work on. We will need help with cutting, ironing, sewing, quilting, and binding. We’ll be there from 9 AM until 4 PM, and you can come for as long as you like during that time. Hope you can join us!
