Special Message

Dear Friends -
We have been busy over the past six years working to improve and protect the Lower Haw River State Natural Area. In that time we have never charged membership dues. However now we are reaching out to you, our members, to ask for your financial support to continue our efforts.
We have benefitted in the past from generous donations from the bePhilARThropy's Bynum Bridge Fest and the Chatham Marketplace's Register Round-Up, but we can no longer depend on those sources of funding. So we are appealing to our membership to help fund our continued stewardship, advocacy and education work. We are an all volunteer board, but our projects and programs have costs. Please consider how our efforts have improved the area and make a donation to help us continue.
Stewardship - Enhancing infrastructure and restoring habitat.
Some examples include: the Paddle Launch at 64, Shade Shelter at 15-501, three Information Kiosks, our Trash Can Project (installation and trash removal), Invasive Plant Removal, Pollinator Garden, Bird Boxes.
Education - Providing programs and outings to connect people with nature and promote awareness of the Lower Haw ecosystem.
We offer outings and presentations, and have created videos and informational materials. Our Wildlife Camera project documents the animals that live in the Lower Haw.
Advocacy - Encouraging conservation of lands along the Haw River and the establishment and maintenance of sustainable land and paddle trails.
We initiated the Haw River Trail Steering Committee, and we successfully advocated for a county Trails and Open Space Planner, who began work in January. We are a member of the Great Trails State Coalition that advocates for more state funding for all types of trails.
We know you share our passion and concern for the river we love so much. Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to continue these efforts.
