Chris Lewis takes Local Elected Officials from Kingsville on Tour of Parliament

Above: Elected Officials gathered in Ottawa for the Association of Municipalities Annual General Meeting: Deputy Mayor Gord Queen, Councillors Kimberly DeYong, Laura Lucier and CAO John Norton met with me to discuss Kingsville’s unique needs relating to the volume of international agricultural workers Kingsville receives each season. Officials from Kingsville are asking the federal government to work more closely with the Town to meet the housing, safety, and medical needs of these guest workers, who support the food supply chain in our country. At the same time, I was able give the officials a tour of Parliament. It was a pleasure to host some our local leaders in the House of Commons.

A Review of August 2022

Above: A busy summer continues. Finally got an opportunity to visit Fighting Island and see the beauty that is in our own backyard.
It was an honour to celebrate Station Captain Kratz' birthday at a Sunday morning breakfast in Kingsville and present him with a Queens Platinum Jubilee pin for his service.
Above: At Fort Malden, Amherstburg, I was able to attend the 80th Anniversary of the Dieppe Raid In-Canada and tour of Fort Malden including a Traditional Soldier's Stew lunch. It was good to hear, once again, the history of the Fort but this time told by Interpretation Officer, Alexander Dale and he was a fantastic storyteller! Alexander captured everyone's attention and imagination with a vivid history of the Fort. What a rich history we have in Amherstburg.
Meet Sam, the newest addition to the Lewis family! He's a handful!!
Above: A constructive meeting with MP Jasraj Singh Hallan and local business leaders about the challenges being faced as a result of the ArriveCAN app, immigration barriers, and inflation. Thank you to Sukhwinder Wadhwa for helping us with a meeting location.
Above: Fantastic to have my colleague, Jasraj Singh Hallan, Shadow Minister of Immigration visit Essex. We had a great conversation with Laurie Tannous, Windsor Immigration lawyer, joined by her son and intern, Zachary, regarding Immigration challenges, passport backlogs, border delays and ArriveCAN. So much work to do! Below the post from Jasraj's Facebook page.
Above: I love meeting with constituents but it's even more of a joy when they come to see me in Ottawa. Thank you for a good evening and great conversation.
Above: WWII veterans, John Date (top left), Arthur Boon (top right & bottom left), Charles Davis (bottom right) receive a certificate and a Queens Jubilee pin from me in honour of their service to our community and country. The certificates read:

For service to King and Country during the Second World War.
Your bravery and sacrifice have significantly changed the world.
In honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee I present you with her commemorative pin.
Thank you for your service.
With Respect and Gratitude
Chris Lewis MP, Essex

“People who put themselves on the line and sacrifice their own safety for the greater good and for others,
and anyone in any profession whose concern is the welfare for other people instead of the individual, are inspiring and important.”

Above and below: Thank you to Dan Inverarity from Kiwanis-Sunshine Point Camp for inviting me to the cheque presentation for the new Canada Summer Jobs funding! I am glad that you were able to qualify for this funding and I was happy to help you in the application process. I know how essential this funding is for your work and for the work of so many other businesses and charities. CSJ students are needed to help carry the load over the summer months. I have to say this is a great place for kids to spend the summer or any other time of year, and that's why I had to present them with a certificate of community service for all they do!! Thank you and have a fun and safe summer.
Left: Please welcome the newest member of our team: Erin! She will be based in Ottawa but has spent a few days in August with us in the riding of Essex, getting to know our area, so she can better serve our constituents. I’m so glad that Erin has come onboard and I look forward to working with her in Parliament. Erin comes with experience of Parliament already and will be an excellent addition to an already amazing team. Welcome, Erin!
Above: At the beginning of the month I had the honour of presenting a Queen’s Jubilee pin to Al Fazio. Al has been a valuable member of our community as the owner of Mr. Biggs, as a member of many boards and Municipal council in Lakeshore. Thanks for your service to our community and for the great food, Al!!
Above: Thanks to Paul Kirk, board member for the Canadian Transportation Museum Heritage Village, for the tour. It was great showing my new team member Erin some of the region’s automotive history. I also appreciated hearing about the museum’s recovery after the last few years of challenges. Glad to hear the museum is doing well, but I know there’s still a long way to go!
Above: Thank you to David Stout, US consultant and Global Automotive and Mobility Innovation Challenge President, for this morning's conversation. It's always good to build bridges with our US experts for future trade and auto development.

A Moment from July 2022

Above: an evening from last month that was missed in July's newsletter. July 31st: What a fantastic event - Sun Parlour Rodeo!! The attendance this year has blown previous records out of the water. The support of the community for the rodeo and in raising funds for Erie Shores is unprecedented! Congratulations to all of the rodeo participants! It was a privilege to join Hilda MacDonald in riding the chuckwagon to open the rodeo, this year, and it was an honour to present my friend a certificate and a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee pin. The Certificate read: "In Recognition of John Pavao and Family for their hospitality in hosting the Sun Parlour Rodeo and the generous support of Erie Shores Health Care and Erie Shores Hospice through these fundraising efforts! With respect and gratitude, Chris Lewis, MP for Essex" It was also great to see the former Mayor of Kingsville, Nelson Santos. The below quote sums up the evening:  “The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.” Coretta Scott King
