Pierre Poilievre becomes the Conservative Party of Canada Leader with a Landslide Victory!

I was excited to be there, on September 10th, when the announcement was made that Pierre Poilievre had won the Conservative Party of Canada leadership election with 68.15 percent of the vote on the first ballot. I found out later that he had also won 330 of the 338 ridings across the country. I backed Pierre the whole way because I knew he was what the party, and Canada, needed. Now that Pierre has taken leadership, and brought a much needed unity, I look forward to preparing for the next Federal election!

A Review of September 2022

Above: It was good to be back, in person, at the Harrow Fair! The Pie Auction, supporting the John McGivney Children's Centre, is always a highlight! This year I added an additional opportunity to support the work of this great Centre. My offer of dinner for 4 with my beautiful wife, Allison and I, at Mettawas Station Mediterranean Restaurant was kindly supported to the tune of $3200.00! Congratulations to all attendees and pie winners for your enthusiastic support of the fundraising efforts! Thank you Harrow Fair board for bringing our fair back for its 166th year!!
Above and below: Bryerswood Youth Camp has 35 years of history in providing fun, outdoor camps to children and teens. Now they are looking to upgrade their facilities in the coming years with a new vision for an already great place to send your kids. We are behind you all the way Bryerswood!! Thank you Mary Ann Mertens, Linda Tull, Caralle Hicks, and Robert Sinclair for the great tour and update on how things are going. www.bryerswood.com
Below: This is Illia and Elisabeth. Illia is one of the first Ukrainian refugees to come to Essex County and Elisabeth, and her husband, Thomas, have helped house Illia during his transition into the area. I was pleased to hear that, after connecting with my office, Illia has been granted a full refugee scholarship at the University of Windsor. So glad we could help. It was a pleasure to meet with Illia, today. Welcome to Essex and Canada!!! Well done University of Windsor for getting Illia a place in his program so quickly! Please be praying for his family back in Ukraine!
Below: What a great morning at the Harrow Fair Parade! It was fantastic to see the crowds, once again, lining the parade route! I appreciate the opportunity to connect with old friends, meet many new friends, watch the children enjoying the sights, and shake the paws of our four legged friends (and share a treat!) It was great to be back together, again! Thanks Team Lewis for joining me on this hot and humid day, you are the best!
Below: Thank you to Rob Kennedy (Vice President) and Linda Poho from UNIFOR Local 195 for coming by the office to talk. It is always good to hear from those who represent workers in Windsor-Essex. I look forward to further meetings and discussions in the coming weeks.
Below: Thank you, Richard J Meloche, Candidate for Mayor for the Town of Essex, for coming by the office for a good discussion on issues facing our area.
Below: Just weeks before the passing of Queen Elizabeth II I was pleased to honour some local heroes with a certificate and a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pin. These people would never call themselves “heroes” because they just selflessly serve without a thought of recognition for themselves. Please join me in celebrating these wonderful people and their incredible contributions and investments to our communities!

The Certificates read:

In Honour of The Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
Thank you, for your continued dedication and service to our community.
“Leaving the world a better place than you found it.”
With Respect and Gratitude,

Well done: Brian Tracy, Sandy Repko, Mayor Marc Bondy, Katherine and Wayne Gunning, Joe Colasanti, Linda and Bob Lynch, Olav Kitchen, Mayor Tom Bain, Elise Harding-Davis, Morris Brause, Agnes Langman, Jeff Burrows, Brenda McCurdy, Bob Baltin, Robert Sinclair, Henry Denotter, Eva Lewis, Pauline Robinet, Larry Wood, Bonnie Monminie, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 201. Below a selection of photos of the recipients.
Below: Thank you to Leo and Ann from Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) in Essex County. It was great to see so many farmers in one place. Thank you for the opportunity to speak to the group and more importantly thank you for all of the good questions during our discussion time. Agriculture is such a big part of the riding. Let’s keep discussing and looking for solutions for those issues we talked about.
Below: It was fun to surprise Patti France, President of St. Clair College, with a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee pin for her service and leadership to our community. Patti lives in my riding and is well deserving of this recognition for her ongoing work at the college and in our area. Well done!

The Passing of Queen Elizabeth II

Above: It is with a heavy heart that we learned, on September 8th, of the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. I want to express my deepest condolences to the Royal family. We grieved with the loss of our longest-reigning monarch. While our country was cast into mourning, our thoughts and prayers were with her entire family, and especially with His Majesty, King Charles III. Long may he reign. Below: Please see my speech in the House of Commons in honour of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. (Please click image to view video & above image from Global News)

September 2022 in Ottawa

Below: Always good to be in the House of Commons representing the people of Essex. One of the best things about what I do in Parliament is supporting like-minded colleagues.
Below: Good to be back in International Trade Committee asking questions and receiving answers that support tax relief for farmers on energy costs and the relief that is needed from the fertilizer tariffs in Canada. Thank you, Brendon Byrne, Chair of the Grain Farmers of Ontario for your input to committee today. See the video below for more details. (Click image to view video)
Below: at the end of September, in the International Trade Committee, we studied the ArriveCAN app's impact on business and trade in Canada. See below for my questioning in support of local businesses that have lost millions of dollars of contracts as a result of ArriveCAN and mandates. Thank you to Douglas Lovegrove, President of Osella Technologies Inc., Windsor, for your testimony. It is clear that the Liberal government has realized its mismanagement of the border, the use of ArriveCAN and border requirements. The government is finally taking ownership of these failures with the long, overdue, decision to end the mandatory use of ArriveCAN and other travel mandates! (Click on the image below to view the video)
Below: Thank you to Dr. Alicia Tone - Scientific Advisor for Ovarian Cancer Canada (OCC) and Andrea Kent, recent survivor of ovarian cancer for your presentation and touching testimonial about the need for early detection and solutions for ovarian cancer. Having lost a very dear friend to this, years ago, it was a moving time hearing the challenges but also the positive results of the current research. Needless to say, I will be giving my full support to future funding for this research. Well done Ovarian Cancer Canada!!
Below: At the end of September, I met with Michael Sangster, Chief Executive Officer of the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC). It was a pleasure discussing NACC’s success in preparing their students for jobs the Canadian economy so desperately needs: personal support workers, electricians, truck drivers, and so much more. Thank you, NACC, for your commitment to your students and their success, as well as your development of Canada’s labour force!

A Moment from August 2022

Above and below: Fantastic to have my colleague, Jasraj Singh Hallan, Shadow Minister of Immigration visit Essex. We had great conversation with Laurie Tannous, Windsor Immigration lawyer, joined by her son and intern, Zachary, regarding immigration challenges, passport backlogs, border delays and ArriveCAN. We also had time to visit the Gordie-Howe International Bridge construction site.
