"Australia New Zealand as global leaders in the sustainable production and use of biochar"
Dear Subscribers,

We mark the close of the ‘20/21 financial year with a milestone: our first funded research project, Biochar in Regenerative Agriculture, which under the aegis of the Regenerative Agriculture Alliance at Southern Cross University (SCU) is now underway. This two year project will assess the health benefits of biochar as an animal feed supplement and the use of dung beetles to increase soil carbon and pasture improvement. We intend that the outcomes of this project, including a scientific paper, field days and fact sheets all will help the biochar method to go mainstream in Australia and New Zealand. Alongside where the trial is being carried out the same farmer will now register a soil carbon project under the Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF). A big thank you to our research team and organisational member Environmental Analysis Laboratory at SCU for carrying out the analysis and long-term support of biochar.

Speaking end of year: ANZBIG now uses the Xero Accounting and Hubdoc software to streamline our book keeping. Thank you to our Chair Nigel Murphy for the suggestion and GM Sam Zagami for integrating this into our websites and automated invoicing system. Get in touch if you'd like to know more about how it can help you in 21/22.
We also now welcome Andrew Kindon, as our event coordinator for ANZBC21. Based in Perth, Andrew is a seasoned player in his field and brings a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience to this year’s event. If you are hesitant to register due to potential COVID restrictions, we have virtual options and we will EITHER postpone the event until we can go live and with an option to refund or carry over fees paid, OR go fully virtual.

In these changing times, the growing biochar industry remains strong through the digitisation of voluntary carbon markets that knows no international borders and of course ANZBIG accredited biochar which we aim to roll out in the new financial year. For more information or for any other assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Enjoy this month's drawdown edition.
