Some News, and Some Reminders

First of all, there's a new interview with me, courtesy of the Only Picture Books blog.This is my first interview since starting at Kane Press, and includes a considerable amount of personal history. I've also listed it on the Interviews page, where you will find interviews with children's book practitioners in one section, and interviews with me in another.

I also want to remind you of these upcoming events:

• If you want to get started on a novel: you should look into this: Ready Chapter 1's "Novel Academy" is a 10-month course designed to help writers take a novel from idea to query stage, with monthly classes and support. I will be teaching about revision in July. More information, including details about the faculty, and to register. • Of general interest: on January 24 I will moderate a discussion with three in-house children's book editors, sponsored by the Metro NY SCBWI.  Tickets and more information (it's $15 to SCBWI members, $20 to everyone else.)
• For "serious beginners": The next Crash Course in Children's Publishing--Everything You Need to Know, starts February 9. This course features 10 weeks of live and pre-recorded material.

Also, I've been updating the Award-Winning Children's Books section of the site ahead of the announcements at the ALA winter conference this weekend, when I'll have a whole new round to catch up on.... As you will see, I'm working to link to Bookshop.org instead of Amazon, and have been replacing links as I work through that section. This time, I updated the Scott O'Dell Award page and the Sibert Informational Book Award Page. Please use the Bookshop.org links if you want to buy books--this supports independent booksellers, and they also pay me a commission.
