FVCA's new study: Impact investing in Private Equity
Impact investing is one of the fastest growing investment strategies in the private equity industry. Finnish Venture Capital Association’s (FVCA) new study was conducted by the team's analyst Annemari Kirppu with support from Tesi and Sitra. The study examines the targets, measuring methods, compensation structures and other practices of European private equity (PE) impact investors and the effect the different practices have on the investments’ financial performance as well as the achieved impact. 22 European private equity firms who manage a total of 415 portfolio companies through their impact funds participated in the study.

On Friday the 6th of September we held a launch event for the study, where the association's Head of analytics Annemari Kirppu presented the study's most relevant findings. We also had a few guest speakers: Marko Kyyrönen (CEO, EduImpact) spoke about impact measurements in education investments, Razi Latif (Lab Manager, UNTIL Finland) introduced The UN's Technology and Innovation Lab in Finland and last but definitely not least Uli Grabenwarter (Deputy Director, EIF) held an inspiring and thought-provoking presentation titled "The New Paradigm for Capitalism: go impact or go nowhere".

The event was very successful and we would like to thank everyone who participated for the excellent questions and lively discussion. See you again in our upcoming events during the fall!
The study received a lot of publicity in the Finnish media
Kauppalehti 5.9.
As Impact Investing has become a major topic in the Private Equity industry, it was great that Kauppalehti, a renowned commerce-oriented newspaper in Finland, released an article about the topic.

Kauppalehti's Elina Lappalainen interviewed Annemari Kirppu and the association's Managing Director Pia Santavirta about impact investing and the new study that FVCA released. The article also discussed the current situation of impact investing among the Finnish private equity industry. IPR.VC's Timo Argillander was also a part of the article as a representative of a company that requires its portfolio companies to be responsible.

Markkinaraati 6.9.
Impact investing was also the topic of MTV3's morning talk show "Markkinaraati" on the 6th of September. The association's Managing Director Pia Santavirta alongside Taaleri's Investment Director Pekka Samuelsson and journalist Elina Lappalainen discussed the differences between responsible investing and impact investing and the profitability of impact investments.
