Image Comics is happy to introduce the very first in our series of bi-monthly Library Resources Newsletters. We hope that with each issue, we can provide support to libraries by offering new and exciting ways to utilize our books.
Every two months, we will deliver:
The latest news and reviews
New series spotlights (outlining larger themes, ideas for programming, further reading)
An expanded programming feature, with event formats rotating every issue
A classic, yet timely, backlist series spotlight
Useful tools like our latest Edelweiss lists, our most recent book catalog, and information on how you can contact us for information, review copies, ordering and support.
Going forward we will also take some time to focus on individual libraries and their programming successes! Send us one to two paragraphs about events you have organized, include photographs and tales of using graphic novels in your library, and we’ll select one branch to feature in every newsletter!
As the publisher of so many diverse and dynamic series by the biggest names in comics we're even more excited about what's to come and look forward to working closely with you and your libraries.
Thanks and enjoy - and please share this newsletter with your friends and colleagues!

HALLOWE'EN COSTUME CONTEST
AGE RANGE: Toddler to Adult
ATTENDANCE: Varies according to space, 20-30
TIME FRAME: Single event, one to two hours
SUMMARY: Invite your patrons to come mingle, enjoy food and drink, and take part in a contest to win books and/or prizes! Provide attendees in costume with a numbered badge. Have a box for silent voting. This program has relatively little setup beyond prodiving space, snacks, and seating if desired. It also serves to provide a safe community space for Hallowe'en festivities, especially useful for communities who may not have access to neighborhoods with Trick-or-Treating or other traditional celebratory activities. Costumed attendees and onlookers get a chance to meet their neighbors, gawk at fantastic outfits, and win prizes to be given out at the end of the program. Contact Image to request promotional materials for use as prizes.
BONUS: Take photographs of event and of contest winners and draft a one-sheet "newspaper" with a brief write-up to post in your branch or email to attendees.
SUMMARY: Barbara is an angry elementary-school girl who is known as a freak and claims to be a killer of giants. She faces bullies and storms with no fear, but cannot face what she hides from at home.
This multiple award winning title has retained a consistent level of popularity since its initial publication in 2008. It is a wonderful read for youth and adults, and a powerful teaching tool, as well. In addition, it is currently being adapted for the big screen by Treehouse Pictures, to star Zoe Saldana and Madison Wolfe. http://variety.com/2015/film/news/zoe-saldana-madison-wolfe-i-kill-giants-1201591274/
