The first ever Cats Of Gili Meowsletter is here!

Dear folks, felines, fans and supporters of Cats Of Gili,

You're reading our first meowsletter ever! I plan to write these whenever there is news to spread: upcoming cat clinics or other stuff and just to give an occasional overview on how our island cats are doing!

This meowsletter will first highlight a few issues from 2016 and then shortly list our plans for this brand new 2017!

Enjoy reading!

Best regards and meooows,

Cats Of Gili coordinator

We organized 2 big spay/neuter clinics in 2016. First one was in April (7 days) and the second one in November (10 days). The clinics went to all 3 Gili islands. During the 2 clinics our volunteer vet teams treated nearly 450 cats. Of those 358 cats were spayed or neutered!

Since Cats Of Gili -project was started in September 2013, we have organized 9 of these big cat clinics. In total over 2200 cats have been to the clinics and nearly 1700 cats have been spayed or neutered. You can already see the difference: we have less cats but the cat population is happier and healthier. This was our goal from the beginning.

But the work must continue! The islands are still full of cats and they still breed like maniacs!

Brand new website

One of the biggest headaches last year was our website. The old website got hacked and completely destroyed. I had to build the new website from scratch and that took just forever, as I'm not really a specialist on website design.

However, finally in July-August our new website was somewhat ready, our -domain moved to the new site and - most importantly - was removed from all kind of lists and websites where was listed as dangerous. Phew!

Our website has all the information you may need about our cat project, check for example these articles:

Plans for 2017

Here's what we will hopefully accomplish during this year:
  • Organize at least 2 big spay/neuter clinic. First one will be in the beginning of April. Dates are yet to be confirmed but will inform about those soon.
  • Organize a few one or two day mini-clinics in Gili Trawangan in between the big clinics. First one will be on January 11th (more info below).
  • Get our cat merchandise (canvas bags and t-shirts) online! Webshop is hopefully coming soon!
One day mini-clinic for cats

Vet Rini from Jakarta is coming for a short visit and that gives us the possibility to organize a one day vet clinic for cats!

Clinic will be on Wednesday, January 11th at the cat shop in Egoiste. Open from 9am until 3pm. FREE spay/neuter. Vaccines against feline panleukopenia available for 120.000rp.

Vet Rini has been our cat clinic supervisor almost since the beginning. She is an amazing vet and just loves all animals. Her home in Jakarta is like a zoo, filled with rescued animals.

We are super happy to welcome vet Rini here once again!
Cats Of Gili merchandise

Our tiny cat shop at Egoiste not only sells cat food and such, we are also stocked with some cool and cute cat merchandise for our human friends! We are especially proud of our canvas bag line, as we do hate plastic bags. If you ask meow, everyone should carry a canvas bag and say NO to plastic bags!

If you visit Gili Trawangan, please come shopping!

More info about our cat shop is here.

Cats Of Gili is a project to help cats on Gili islands in Indonesia. The project is part of GILI ECO TRUST, an environmental organization based in Gili islands. If you want to know more about the work Gili Eco Trust is doing, please check their website
