This is not my regular monthly newsletter but I am excited to share this with you all!
The 2022 TATTER Quilting Primer series is live! We had an incredible time last year and are so excited to offer this once again. This year we have a few new offerings in the series so we hope you join us again, or for the first time!
The TATTER Quilting Primer series aims to demystify the act of hand sewing a quilt block through a sequence of diverse forays into block construction. This series gathers contemporary voices and techniques to give the new sewist a set of skills and the confidence to take on any existing pattern or personal composition.
Exposure to seven unique teachers over seven weeks affords any sewist, seasoned or novice, the opportunity to witness varied approaches even within the same technique. Experiencing the series as a whole is sure to provide a strong foundation and will get you well on your way to a joyful practice of hand-sewn quilting. These seven blocks cover improv and precision, piecing and applique, embroidery, seaming and historical patchwork. These techniques are portable and accessible, no machine is needed! Sign up for the series or any of the classes individually.
Last year, I taught Saeksilnubi 3D quilt block, and this year, I will introduce kkekki 깨끼 바느질. Kkeki is a beautiful and tidy seam technique for use with sheer fabrics. The finished seam is fine, neat, and sturdy.
Using sheer and lightweight fabric, I will teach how to use this technique to make narrow seam lines. Pick any lightweight fabric to pair together. This is also a great technique to use if you are making a textile where both sides are visible. At the end of class, you will have a sample block with seams you will want to show off!
