It's an important time to stay close together, in support of our families - things seem to be changing at a rapid rate, which can create a high degree of uncertainty for families already living in a vulnerable state.  I wanted you to know about a few programs we've started that seek to address these anxieties and provide the support needed to cultivate resiliency and self-sufficiency.

As always, I want to thank you for being partners with us in nourishing our community.

Thank you,
Jake Weber, Executive Director

Empowerment Groups

We are thrilled that our UW School of Social Work interns are facilitating several Mutual Support and Empowerment groups through their practicum experience: Strength Through Loss and Latina Empowerment Group.

Strength Through Loss: Tuesdays - a group to provide a safe place for people to unburden themselves of grief and find connection.
Latina Empowerment Group: Through a partnership with Justice For Women, this group empowers women to identify issues of concern in their community and act for change.

Family Advocacy

Advocates provide support and
connection to resources.
You may have seen some recent emails or a postcard from us about Family Advocacy. Our Family Advocates have helped hundreds of people connect to the resources that they need for safety, stability and resiliency. For families living in a vulnerable state it can be overwhelming to find the resources needed to address their multiple concerns. Our Family Advocates make sure that families don't have to navigate the system or face these difficult situations alone.

Most recently, one of our Family Advocates shared a success story with us. After meeting with a teen mom over several sessions, she was able to help her to find an affordable room for her and her 4 year old son, sign up for health care, prepare for a job interview and approach the future with greater hope and dignity.

Last month we lost a beloved member of our FamilyWorks Community, Emmett Brown. He had a heart of gold and was always positive and loving, even through the darkest times. We wanted to share this video with you all because it shows his love of life and his fondness of enjoying the music of the moment. What we realized when seeing this video from a few years back was that we have also lost Cora, the piano player, and Fathia - the dancer in the hat. They all added to our Family in a special way and we miss them all.

We thank you for helping to meet the increasing needs of people in our community for food and family support.  There were 25% more visits last year to the Wallingford and Greenwood Food Banks and you made sure there was always an ample supply of nutritious food and dairy!
