March Wrap up

The racing season is well underway with members competing in both the Golden Jubilee event held at Barbagallo Raceway and the Racewars Sprint in Albany over the month of March. Congratulations to those who were race ready for the Jubilee, which by all means sounds like an fun and eventful weekend.

The first of our points rounds saw Denver Parker in 1st place, Andrew Souvertjis in 2nd place and Drew Watkins in 3rd.

We also saw Wayne Hastie in his debut with us take out 1st in the under 2litre category, followed in 2nd by Philip Crouse.

The weekend also saw new member Chris Cheverall take to the track, and Aidan Friel return in his power house 86.

Racewars Sprint

The Street Car Association of WA were proud to be the supporting affiliated club for the innaugral Racewars Sprint, held on the picturesque Middleton Beach, climbing Mt Adelaide to finish at the ANZAC centre. There were 86 cars racing on the day, including our members Andrew Messenger and Craig Maloney, and Jubilee winner Denver, loaded up the trailer to head to Albany after the Racemeet at Barbagallo.

Denver finished up 3rd overall in the Land Whale, Craig finished up 4th overall and took out the AWD category.

From the feedback drivers and spectators loved the event and we look forward to working with the Racewars team in 2020 to make it even bigger and better!

April Race Meet

Entries are now open for the April Racemeet via the cams portal here

Note to racers for the April Race Meet

After a great success at the “Golden Jubilee” event and with many of the categories having growth with numbers, it has come to light that the north ramp area is becoming rather crowded.

So in an attempt to ease the congestion and to also help with cars not having to be propped to not roll down the north ramp, WASCC are going to trial having the dummy grid in the outfield pitlane.

The plan is as follows:
When your category is scheduled/called to the dummy grid, all cars will follow the one way system to the south ramp.

Cars will then proceed down the south ramp, staying to the left hand side and filing onto the outfield pitlane (staying left of the concrete wall). Proceeding along at walking pace.

All cars will then grid up at the north end of the pitlane, ensuring at all times that the “fast” lane is kept clear and being aware of any pitcrew who are watching the race that is in progress.

To assist in helping this be efficient and to also assist the Pitlane/Grid Teams, please try to be aware of your starting positions prior.

Collie Meet

It has come to the committee's attention that the Collie Race Rounds were somehow not finalized in error for 2019

We WILL NOT be attending the Icebreaker round to be held in March

After discussion with the Motor Race Panel of WA we have been given permission to change our points scoring round for Collie to the Ernie Hastie Memorial Trophy Event to be held May 18th and 19th at the Collie Motorplex

This round will count toward CAMS points and Street Car Racing Association of WA points.

At this time we are not aware if this event will be on the new long track

If you need any further information please email streetcarswa@gmail.com or follow the Facebook Event Page

Racers Helping Racers

The Sporting Car Club have proposed a racing helping racers concept this year to ensure there are enough flag marshals etc to help run race-meets. We have nominated the June 23rd event for Street Cars Members to help out.

Block the date in your diary, A chance to get of your "p plates"  and give back to you racing community.

One the day that the category is scheduled, those that volunteer will receive:
  •  1.  1 x lunch bag with a variety of food (please advise if there are any specific food allergies)
  •  2.  1 x dinner voucher to be received at the trophy presentations
  •  3.  2 x drink vouchers to be redeemed at the McCrackan house bar after the event
  •  4.  1 x entry into the event draw for the "Woolworths Everyday Gift Card" valued at $50, to be redeemed at Woolworths, BWS, Cellar Masters, Dan Murphy's or BIG W. There is a 1 in 5 chance to receive one of these cards at the event you volunteer at.
  •  5.  Another great day at the race track enjoying motor-sport and meeting the people in your teams that work behind the scenes to assist you racing at an event.

While all of us appreciate that many of you have volunteered in past or at other motorsport events in different codes, it is also important that we look after our own discipline of circuit racing so that we can all continue to enjoy what we love doing.......driving/racing our cars. We also acknowledge that there are other factors in life that need attention so that we can go racing in the first place.

If you would like to nominate yourself for June 23rd please email Cameron at the Sporting Car Club Cameron@wascc.asn.au
