Back to the Basics

The topic of climate change has been front and center in recent weeks. With regards to the headlines, we're going back to the basics to remind our followers about one of our core founding principles - reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Greenhouse gases (GHGs), when introduced into the atmosphere, trap heat energy that would otherwise be headed out to space. This is called the greenhouse effect and it is responsible for the warming climate.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the most well-known GHG, but there are others that are responsible for warming the planet as well. When doing GHG accounting everything is done relative to CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere and this is where Silicon Valley Clean Energy's carbon free electricity makes a big difference in reducing your carbon footprint. Click below to learn more and find out how much your carbon footprint* will shrink with the switch to 100% carbon free electricity from SVCE. (*note that the tool uses the national average for calculating pounds of CO2 per kilowatt-hour.)

Summer Energy Saving Tips

As we get further into summer and temperatures rise, we'd like to remind you of some easy energy saving tips to keep you cool and your electricity bill low.
  • Keep your windows and blinds closed during the day to keep the sun from warming your home
  • Open windows at night when the weather cools down to naturally cool your space
  • Use fans and vents to cool individual rooms instead of the whole house and unoccupied rooms
  • Set your thermostat to as high as comfortable when you're away, the smaller difference between the indoor and outdoor temp will keep your AC from running up your bill
  • Avoid using your oven on hot days, use a microwave or grill outside
