SAFEGUARDING STUDENTS ACROSS THE UWC SYSTEM

~ Reading time: 1 min

All 17 UWC schools and colleges, including Pearson College UWC, recently took a strong step to further ensure the health, wellbeing and safety of students by adopting the UWC Common Standards for Safeguarding.

These system-wide standards complement Pearson’s existing Respectful Community Policies which support a respectful working, living and learning environment free of discrimination, supportive of personal growth and achievement and uphold the dignity, self-esteem and fair treatment of all members of the College community.

The common safeguarding standards were developed by a UWC Safeguarding Task Force, chaired by Tove Veierød, the Special UWC International Board Representative on Safeguarding, with input from various external specialists, including Council of International Schools (CIS) safeguarding specialists, legal experts and from UWC International and all UWC schools and colleges.

The standards reflect a continuing system-wide commitment to the wellbeing and safety of all members of the UWC community, reflecting UWC’s core values of personal responsibility and integrity, autonomy and mutual responsibility, respect and compassion. These reflect the right of children to be protected from all forms of abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence, as set out in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
