From the 1st Vice President

Dear Newcomers!

We have had a great start to our fall season with wonderful turnouts to our Celebrate Holliston Booth, Food Pantry Day and our Fall Oktoberfest social event. We have a lot planned for the upcoming weeks as we move into Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the Holiday season. We always love this time of year when we can meet brand new members and reconnect with existing ones.

We are currently scheduling an activities fair (date is TBD) where members new and old can learn about different Newcomer events and committees. We will be updating our new Facebook page with dates and events as they are confirmed. We hope you have enjoyed our fall events so far and look forward to seeing you soon. And as always, we welcome you to email us with questions and suggestions at

1st Vice President

From the 2nd Vice President

We continue to be busy with new sign-ups and renewals which is very reassuring for the future of this club, so thanks for becoming involved and showing your support! We are happy to have you. If you have not yet done so please join our private Facebook page that is open only to active members so we have an even easier way to communicate with each other and stay in the loop on upcoming events.

Please join me in extending a warm welcome to the following new members: Leah Kerlin-Smith and Chris Lydon, Savannah and Jacob Littman, Erin and Bill Phipps, Rosemary and Rick Hills, Deanna Dolecki, Jennifer and Tom Peterson, Katrine Giroux, Alissa and Ryan Looney, Lisa and Gerry DiLuzio, Sue and Bob Cahill, Abby and Jack Hendler, and Brenda Glenny. Welcome to the club and please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions!

I know this may be the last newsletter for those of you who have not yet renewed and I want to thank you for your past work and support and send a sincere message of hope that you will renew for this integral rebuilding year. We are only as good as our members make us!

Christel DiPippo

Volunteer at the Craft Fair!

Craft Fair is just around the corner on 11/20/16, so we need your help to make this year's event a success! As a member of Newcomers Club it is your responsibility to contribute 2 hours toward the fair and 2 baked goodies, so we can continue to have this event and support our town!

The Craft Fair sign up includes Saturday set up and Sunday volunteer hours. We need more volunteers both days to mark out booths in the gym, package and price bake table items, help staff the administration desk, raffle table and bake table, and assist crafters with loading and unloading. For Saturday, please feel free to bring your kiddos to help out and have pizza!

Sign up here:

Also, all members are responsible for contributing 2 baked goods; please fill out the online form or include the info yourself with your baked goodies, so shoppers know what they are or if you made something special (such as without nuts or gluten free). If you are volunteering Saturday you can bring your baked goods with you.

We have 3 drop-off locations in Holliston for your 2 Baked Goods:

Friday November 19th 5-8pm and Saturday November 20th 10am-1pm:
  • Liz's house at 456 Adams Street
  • Jen' s house at 116 Church Street
Friday November 19th 6-8pm and Saturday November 20th 10am-1pm:
  • Erica's house at 125 Marilyn Street

Thanksgiving Baskets

Greetings HNC!

First off we want to send a huge thank-you to all of you who have already signed up to volunteer and donated. We have already had such a huge outpouring of support for this project from the community and we feel so grateful to live in such a wonderful town! Every year there are local families who struggle to put a meal on the table at Thanksgiving. With your generous support we hope this Thanksgiving to provide a complete holiday dinner for 170 Holliston families. Your help is critical to reaching this goal!

Here are ways you can contribute to this wonderful community project - THANK YOU!

1. Donate funds (CLICK HERE)
We rely on donated funds to purchase pies, produce, turkeys, and other basket items: $10 will help us purchase a pie, $25 for a pie and produce, $75 for a whole basket.

2. Volunteer to staff a Thanksgiving Basket event
Help with our Shaw’s drive (Saturday, November 5) or with basket assembly (Saturday, November 19).

See our sign-up sheet here:

3. Contribute items for our baskets (2016 basket flyer)
Support our Shaw’s food drive on Saturday, November 5th!
Items can also be dropped at these locations:

  • The Bielak Family, 69 Robin Hill Road
  • The Egnitz Family, 43 Oak Street
  • Fiske’s General Store
  • Jensen Sheehan Insurance Agency, 54 Central Street
  • St Mary’s Church

Book Club

October book club started with a fun night out for dinner and a movie. We saw The Girl on the Train and got to know some brand new members better. Karen Haynes hosted our book club meeting and wowed us with a delicious chocolate fondue and spinach artichoke dip-oh my yum! Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 17th at 7:30pm and Melissa Marien has kindly offered to host (address to be relayed in a reminder e-mail to those on our list). If you can, please bring a light snack or drink to share and if you’re interested in hosting please let us know. Our next selection, which is reserved at the library, is Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple and the summary is below.

Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.

Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle—and people in general—has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands. A trip to the end of the earth is problematic.

To find her mother, Bee compiles email messages, official documents, secret correspondence—creating a compulsively readable and touching novel about misplaced genius and a mother and daughter's role in an absurd world.

We hope to see you there,
Christel and Kim

Gingerbread House Decorating Event

Happy Fall to everyone!

Don’t forget to sign up for your seat at the Gingerbread House Decorating Event on Saturday, December 10th, 2016! Lisa and I are so excited to once again be co-chairing this event as we love it…it is as much fun for us as it is for all of the families and kids who get to come and create their beautiful – and yummy - Gingerbread Houses!

Once again we have the amazing Dee Steffen creating our Gingerbread fresh with all the ingredients donated by Blue Ginger in Wellesley, Massachusetts, where Dee is the Pastry Chef! They fully support Dee’s involvement and allow her to give her time and effort to us and we cannot thank them and her enough. We also have amazing help from our Girl Scout Troop #75346 as well as Maryann Brown, who is our Candy Queen every year! Lastly, our event is held at the Mount Hollis Lodge, and folks there could not be kinder and more helpful every year!

Remaining seatings available are 11:30 am-12:30 pm, 1 pm-2 pm and 2:30 pm-3:30 pm and houses are $35.00 per house.

If you would like to donate a house for a Food Pantry Family to enjoy please email me at and we can get this arranged.
