A weather alert was issued today for snow and freezing rain to begin Thursday night, 12/22, and continue into Friday, 12/23. Accumulation of up to 6" is possible.

Abandoned Cars
Currently, many of Sudden Valley's roads are hard-packed snow/ice, and driving conditions are treacherous. There are multiple reports of vehicles in the ditches, some partially blocking roadways. All local towing services are unable to work in Sudden Valley given the current road conditions, so abandoned vehicles may be left on the roadways for hours or possibly days. Road conditions are poor throughout Whatcom County. Please avoid driving if at all possible. Vehicles blocking the plows or emergency services can have a devastating effect.

Road Clearing & Sanding
Be aware that plowing will not eliminate all snow from the road. Plowing down to the asphalt damages both the road and the plow.
Heavier amounts of sand have been applied to primary roads. Other roads have had less sand applied. Since heavy rains are forecast for later this week, large amounts of sand could be washed into ditches and culverts, adding to the possibility of flooding.

SVCA Holiday Hours
SVCA Administrative Offices will be closed on Friday, December 23rd, and Monday, December 26th, in observance of the holiday.
The Rec Center will be open on Friday, December 23rd, from 8 am to 7:30 pm; closed on Saturday and Sunday, December 24th and 25th; and open on Monday, December 26th, from 8 am to 2:30 pm.
