Lee Oskar’s epic Never Forget is up for Grammy Nominations!

Critically noted as “An album destined to stand the test of time in both its impact and importance. A tremendous triumph and an extraordinary accomplishment.”

We are thrilled to share that several elements of Lee’s landmark project, “Never Forget” have been nominated for Grammys in many different categories! The award winners will be announced at the 65th Grammy Awards, which will air live on February 5, 2023.

We continue to be blown away by all the positive reviews and responses from fans and critics around the world. In the words of writer Lee Zimmerman (Goldmine):

“Lee Oskar demonstrates both his skills and savvy…a tender tapestry threaded with emotion and commitment, it’s an album destined to stand the test of time in both its impact and importance. In fact, both a tremendous triumph and an extraordinary accomplishment.”

Lee as Visual Artist

Did you know that in addition to being a harmonica player, composer, producer and manufacturer, Lee is also an accomplished visual artist? As Lee notes, “Painting is like composing music, it comes from the same place.”

On a newly updated section of our Dreams We Share website, we’re delighted to share Lee’s extensive array of paintings, depicting the beauty and majesty of the great outdoors, family, abstractions and portraits from the Never Forget collec-tion.

Review of Bobby Rush’s Book: I Ain’t Studdin’ Ya: My American Blues Story
by LOH Team member Erin Antos

For summer reading, LOH team member Erin Antos recently read Bobby Rush’s book, “I Ain't Studdin' Ya: My American Blues Story” (with Herb Powell).

Bobby, a living blues legend, is a Lee Oskar Harmonicas Featured Artist.

Here’s what Erin has to say about his story:

Born Emmitt Ellis Jr. in Homer, Louisiana, Rush received his love of music and his first harmonica from his father for whom he always had the deepest adoration and respect.

After acquiring his first real guitar he took on a new name, “Rush,” because people always asked Bobby why he was always rushing somewhere. Playing in the Juke Joints in and around Pine Bluff and Little Rock, AK, he later moved to Chicago where his career would lead to playing with some Blues’ notable greats such as Little Walter, Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed and Howlin’ Wolf.

His stories are heartwarmingly authentic, and he takes the reader on a Blues journey from his close-knit family life as a young child, to his side hustles while he tried to make it in the Blues scene, all the way to his current life and new projects. He had a Blues career that lasts seven decades, including 6 Grammy nominations and two wins.
A Blues Hall-of-Famer, Bobby Rush and his vivid use of the language of the Blues, invite us all to question not only “what is the Blues?” but what it means to every individual through the use of brilliant, and at times tragic, storytelling.

Lee Oskar Harmonicas is proud to have Bobby Rush as a Featured Artist and a member of the Lee Oskar family.

I Ain’t Studdin’ Ya: My American Blues Story is available on Audible and Amazon and in bookstores everywhere.

“The son of a Holocaust survivor, Copenhagen-born Lee Oskar comes to terms with his family’s experiences on this profoundly moving musical memoir. Composed, produced and illustrated by

the 74-year-old harmonica virtuoso, Never Forgets represents a pinnacle in his career.” Bill Milkowski (Downbeat Magazine)

“Lee Oskar’s songs like “Far Away Dreams” and “Song From Mom” become a healing force to those terrible memories from World War II. In many ways, the soaring notes from the man’s harmonica allow the human spirit to move toward healing, even all these years later, and find a place where uplifting sounds takes the place of memories of war. The way these songs offer a path past the lowest depths of human depravity is a miracle in the making, and one that Lee Oskar will always honor. Never ever forget.”—Bill Bentley (Americana Highways/Bentley’s Bandstand)
