We believe that music makes the world go ‘round, and having great distribution partners around the globe helps us get our products to retailers in many regions and ultimately, into consumers’ hands all over the map. So we’re very excited to announce a new collaboration with GEWA Music, headquartered in Adorf, Germany, who will serve as the major distributor of Lee Oskar Harmonicas products throughout most of Europe* (see details below).

Lee notes, “GEWA is an ideal choice for our primary European distributor in light of their longstanding credibility, extensive infrastructure and marketing savvy. We are very pleased to know that consumers living in or traveling to Europe will be able to easily find our products through many retailers in the region, thanks to GEWA’s strong distribution network.”

Lee and Sri recently met with the GEWA team to discuss their new partnership and plans for the European region. We are delighted to share this video, which the GEWA team artfully created to help tell the Lee Oskar Harmonicas story to the European retailer market.

Together with GEWA, we are working on a complete online directory of European who carry Lee Oskar Harmonicas products, so that music-lovers and musicians can readily find stores in European & other countries that carry our products. Stay tuned!

*GEWA covers most of Europe except for Sweden and Denmark, (which Crafton Music continues to handle); Norway (which Musikk Og Elektronik continues to handle); the United Kingdom (which Barnes and Mullins continues to handle), Czech Republic (which 3D Music continues to handle) and Benelux (which Total Sonic continues to handle).

Lee Oskar Diatonic Harmonicas in Low Keys
by Pat Missin

Aside from some special limited-edition items, it's been a while since we've seen any new harmonicas from Lee Oskar, so it was a very pleasant surprise to learn that he is bringing out some more harps in low keys. The first keys to be added to the range will be Low F# and Low E, with Low D to follow a little later. Low D is obviously going to be a useful addition to any harmonica player's tool kit and Low F# will be handy for those who play with guitarists who like to tune down by a semitone. Low E will allow you to play those Jimmy Reed style upper octave first position licks against a guitar shuffle in E and will be a little easier on the ear than the upper octave of a regular E harp.

The samples I got to try were very impressive, with a nice crisp response to both soft and hard playing pressures. They all have the deeper lower covers that help avoid rattling draw reeds in the lowest octave and bright, clear tone of the Lee Oskar reed design helps them cut through the mix a little better than some other low tuned harps. The fine tuning of these harmonicas is a little different from how Lee Oskar’s have been usually tuned, with a compromise temperament that noticeably smooths out the chords, whilst avoiding too much deviation from standard equal temperament.

The Low F# and Low E will be available later this year, with the Low D following by early 2019. More keys should follow before too long, along with replacement reed plates. These will all be priced the same as the rest of the Lee Oskar range and available from the usual dealers.

Testimonial from a Steve Lockwood private student:
"I just wanted to thank you for your first few teaching sessions with me.  Very enjoyable and I have learned a great deal.  All credit is due to your teaching style - as an ex teacher/trainer, I suppose that I can speak with some degree of authority. I have been particularly impressed with your use of technology in your sessions.  Being able to take home a CD recording each time has enabled me to practice and consolidate in my own time and at my own pace.  I've a lot to learn, I know, but I'm filled with enthusiasm.
