Playing For Change News:
"Get Up Stand Up" feat. Skip and Cedella Marley (2020)
We are excited to share a powerful video from Playing for Change, an organization that we have been proudly collaborating with since 2018. This video shares a 2020 Song Around the World rendition of “Get Up Stand Up,” which premiered at their recent Peace through Music global event. This version of “Get Up Stand Up” features Skip and Cedella Marley, along with Lee Oskar on harmonica, Lee Oskar Harmonicas Featured Artist Keb’ Mo,’ Malian blues rock band Songhoy Blues, and other musicians from around the world—all united and standing up together for social justice. The piece includes an excerpt of Martin Luther King Jr.'s unforgettable "I Have a Dream" speech.
Did you know that there is a historical connection between Bob Marley and Lee? Back in Lee’s WAR days, Bob told Lee and the rest of the band that he loved their music and was really inspired by it. In fact, he even picked up the riff that Lee (on harmonica) and Charles Miller (on saxophone) played in the megahit, “Slippin’ Into Darkness,” in his own song, Get Up Stand Up, which went on to become one of his most famous recordings.
