Playing For Change News:

"Get Up Stand Up" feat. Skip and Cedella Marley (2020)

We are excited to share a powerful video from Playing for Change, an organization that we have been proudly collaborating with since 2018. This video shares a 2020 Song Around the World rendition of “Get Up Stand Up,” which premiered at their recent Peace through Music global event. This version of “Get Up Stand Up” features Skip and Cedella Marley, along with Lee Oskar on harmonica, Lee Oskar Harmonicas Featured Artist Keb’ Mo,’  Malian blues rock band Songhoy Blues, and other musicians from around the world—all united and standing up together for social justice. The piece includes an excerpt of Martin Luther King Jr.'s unforgettable "I Have a Dream" speech.

Did you know that there is a historical connection between Bob Marley and Lee? Back in Lee’s WAR days, Bob told Lee and the rest of the band that he loved their music and was really inspired by it. In fact, he even picked up the riff that Lee (on harmonica) and Charles Miller (on saxophone) played in the megahit, “Slippin’ Into Darkness,” in his own song, Get Up Stand Up, which went on to become one of his most famous recordings.

Enjoy this beautifully produced rendition of a Bob Marley and the Wailers classic: (Play video below)

"If there is one thing I have discovered in this path of life as a music man, is that it’s a long one with a myriad of reality roadblocks and detours of disappointment along the way. Some have it better, some have it worse. For me, I always count my blessings, but this past year has undoubtedly been the litmus test of faith. With all this said, and knowing what I know now, I have zero regrets as these challenges forced me to do the “hard thing” and choose uncharted courses I wouldn't usually take. This weary walkabout across the coals has led to some self-discoveries and a treasure trove of newfound and reinforced friendships bound by mutual frustrations, albeit with varied circumstances, but shared exasperations just the same.

The point being, I had to keep moving, and I don't just mean physically, but also mentally. Stagnant was not a healthy option, so I reevaluated my situation and acted. As long as a dark day can seem, there is certainly almost always some much-deserved light at the end. You just have to keep walking on to see it.

I hope these words and music lift your spirits and lighten your load a bit, if only for a little while. Much love and enjoy the video!

Limerick’s folk-rock band Hermitage Green has kickstarted 2021 with a brand-new track ‘Enough’.

With heartfelt, hauntingly beautiful vocals accompanied by an edgy, more electric sound, prepare to be swept away in a tidal wave of emotions by this breathtaking new offering from one of Ireland’s most successful bands of the last ten years.

Expressed from the perspective of a disappointed and discouraged lover or someone simply fed up with how life has played out, the listener will experience all the inner turmoil and frustration that comes with the end of a relationship and the resigned belief that, ‘there’s nothing left here anymore except the rain’.

Written by band member Dan Murphy, the song builds to a crescendo as emotions pour-over and the narrator decides ‘enough is enough’ and the situation can go on no longer – they are determined to make a change and move on.
