Summertime sets just the right mood for celebration and fun… and with outdoor music festivals happening all over, it’s especially great to see people enjoying themselves, connected through live music! Throughout this season, we hope you enjoy making your own fresh-air music with your harmonica and other instruments together around the bonfire, campfire or elsewhere in the great outdoors!

As we have been traveling around the USA for various music industry events, we’ve been celebrating the 35th anniversary of Lee Oskar Harmonicas, which we established in 1983 in collaboration with Tombo Manufacturing of Japan. We’re very proud to say that we’ve been making the same instruments, with the same consistent quality since the beginning. We were honored to have had this milestone celebrated at the recent Summer NAMM convention in Nashville, hosted by our colleagues from KMC Music (a division of JAM Industries), our major distributor of Lee Oskar Harmonicas in the United States.

Lee Oskar Harmonicas Featured Artist Martin Chemes and Playing For Change Foundation's Diamante, Argentina school harmonica students.

Lee Oskar Harmonicas Featured Artist Martin Chemes continues to spread the harmonica love —most recently with his return visit to the Playing for Change Foundation’s (PFCF) Music School in Diamante, Argentina, where he taught a harmonica workshop for eager local students.

As Martin observed, the students demonstrated their love of harmonica by expressing great emotion about their first experiences playing the harp, and by taking impressive care of their instruments. These students were first introduced to harmonica playing in late 2017, when Lee Oskar Harmonicas donated harmonicas to the school as a special holiday gift, and Martin presented an introductory harmonica workshop for this PFCF music education program.

As Martin notes, ”These passionate children have begun to find the music that lives inside of them through this wonderful bridge to its soul: the harmonica.” He encourages all of us to “find the music inside!”

"Low Rider" is a song written by the original members (Howard E. Scott, Harold Brown, Charles Miller, Morris "B. B." Dickerson, Lonnie Jordan, Lee Oskar and Papa Dee Allen), when they performed as the American funk band WAR. This song appeared on their album, "Why Can't We Be Friends?", released in 1975, which reached #1 on the Billboard R&B chart and peaked at # 7 on the Pop Singles chart. This iconic song continues to be played on the airways worldwide and is even part of a Disneyland Theme Park ride!
