This Weekend in Worship:
discover more: together

Scriptures: Genesis 32:22-30 NRSV
Preaching: Pastor Steve Knudson
Sermon: “Discover Blessing in Times of Trial"
Sermon Synopsis: Sometimes, we discover through sweat and tears. Discovery of God comes through a wrestling with our fears, our hopes, our uncertainties. Jacob finds himself in a moment of great uncertainty. After being away from home for a long time, he is returning, now a family man with accumulated wealth, but he is unsure. He receives word that Esau is coming to meet him, and Jacob does not know if Esau is coming in peace or not. Jacob’s past is catching up to him, and he wrestles with God through the night. At the end of the night, Jacob receives a blessing from God, and he is given courage to face the future, but this moment of discovery comes at the cost of a limp. The journey of faith is more complicated and true to life than a easy stepping from one victory to the next. Sometimes, the wisdom and insight we gain about ourselves and God’s grace come at a cost. We discover God, and we are changed.

Resources are available for individuals, small groups, and as a short team devotion, any of which can be downloaded from
