This Weekend in Worship:
discover more: together

Scriptures: Genesis 17:15-19; 18:1-2, 9-14 NRSV
Preaching: Pastor Steve Knudson
Sermon: “Discover God's Faithfulness"
Sermon Synopsis: Abraham and Sarah are old, beyond the normal years for having children. God restates the promise of a family, and both Abraham and Sarah laugh in disbelief. They had given up on the promise, there was nothing more to discover or learn when it came to promise of children. They were done with God. God was not done with them. Sometimes in the journey of faith, we come to moments when it seems there is nothing more, that the trail of promise is closed, and we give up on God. The story of initial disbelief on the part of Abraham and Sarah is familiar, for often we too have given up and do not believe there is anything more to discover. The surprise in the journey of faith happens when we pay attention to God’s surprising ways to fulfill God’s promises and to experience the grace of God in unexpected way.

"Discover More: Together" invites each of us to journey more intentionally in our faith. The journey of faith is dynamic, because God always has something new to tell us.
In our new devotional resources, the Sunday scripture and sermon serve as the basis for our discovery in the week that follows. Resources are available for individuals, small groups, and as a short team devotion, any of which can be downloaded from

This Weekend:
Sunday Morning Learning for All Ages!

“The History of Christianity in Ireland”

It's probably not surprising to hear that St Patrick didn’t really drive the snakes out of Ireland, but did you know that he wasn't even Irish? Our favorite historian, FLC member Mike Bryant will help you learn the true stories of Christianity in Ireland at 10 a.m. on Sundays, Sept. 11, 18 & 25.
Join us in-person at the church, or join us online via Zoom here.

Children's Ministry is Underway!

It's not too late to join into our Sunday Morning Children's Ministry! It is so rewarding to watch and lead our children growing in faith together.  You can still register your children for classes, AND you can also still register yourself to volunteer!

We are taking many safety precautions for the health of our children, which were outlined in the beginning-of-the-year parents meeting online. All the details can be found here.

Frolic First Faith this weekend

Grown-ups with infants and toddlers age 6 months – 2 years-old are invited to join us once a month for 30 minutes of faith formation activities in the nursery from 10-10:30 a.m. starting THIS SUNDAY! We’ll read a story from the Bible, then you and your child/ren will travel through activity stations designed to help you and your child begin faith-shaping interaction.

Names & Faces Photo Directory

It has been SO MUCH FUN seeing everyone come in to get their pictures taken this week! Seeing all of these familiar faces once again has been the talk of the staff - and EXACTLY why we need a photo directory with as many people as possible in it! The best representation is really what makes it a valuable tool for helping make connections in the congregation. Book a Photo Sitting Today online, or call to schedule at 1(888) 742-5823.

Dr. Wolgast to perform recital

Join us for our second organ dedication concert, on Sunday, October 3, at 3 p.m. First Lutheran organist, Brett Wolgast, will present a recital on our new Parsons Opus 50 Pipe Organ.
The concert will feature music by Bach, and Widor, as well as an arrangement of Barber’s famous Adagio of Strings and a piano/organ duet. Dr. Wolgast will also reprise the performance of "Ponder Anew" which was commissioned from Wayne Wold for this instrument's dedication.  The recital is free and open to the public.

SEMP Team Re-Set!

A lot can change in a year and a half- especially these days. As we are preparing to start serving our Saturday Evening Meals on-location once again, we find ourselves with a MAJOR need to update the volunteer roles with new contact info. We also need to pick up some new volunteers to fill in the ministry teams.
If you have any interest in serving - whether you have in the past or are new - please fill out our SEMP team contact form here!
