CBRF Training Registry announces   American Red Cross Curriculum is Ending

The Wisconsin CBRF Training Registry announced the American Red Cross (ARC) has decided not to renew their First Aid and Choking curriculum.  Over the next two years instructors will need to transition from the ARC curriculum to the state approved CBRF specific curriculum.  The Wisconsin Caregiver Academy is offering a Bridge course for American Red Cross instructors to become certified to teach the state approved CBRF specific First Aid and Choking curriculum.  For more information or to register, visit our website

Proposed CNA Pay Act

Democratic lawmakers State Rep. Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) and Jonathan Brostoff (D-Milwaukee) have drafted a legislative package of three bills designed to boost paid caregivers in Wisconsin.  According to Forbes McIntosh, Government Policy Solutions, WALA Lobbyist, Wisconsin is facing a significant shortage of caregivers, with an estimated 11,500 vacant care positions. A recent report and testimony from experts on the shortage point to worker pay and cost/access to training as contributing factors. To ensure Wisconsin's most vulnerable residents receive high quality care, Wisconsin needs to act swiftly to address the shortage of nursing aides by passing the CNA Pay Act, increasing wages and expanding access to training." More information can be found at WHCA/WiCAL.

Dose of Reality Campaign

The Wisconsin “Dose of Reality” prevention campaign was designed to raise awareness about prescription drug abuse and its effect on the opioid epidemic.  New to the campaign is a section for seniors and caregivers which includes information and resources unique to seniors and caregivers, including posters and flyers for assisted living facilities. 

New in 2018: Leadership Development Series offering NHA Continuing Education hoursNew Course

UW-Green Bay's Wisconsin Caregiver Academy is offering its first “Leadership Development Series” with an emphasis on person-centered care.  All courses listed in this series will count towards your 24 hours of National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Board (NAB) continuing education renewal requirements. Special pricing is offered when taking four courses in this series.  The four courses include:

  • Fire Safety – Sept 13, 2018
Instructor approval status is good for a maximum of two years.  At your renewal time, if you originally applied using a “train-the-trainer” option, you must present documentation of continuing education hours.  The Wisconsin Caregiver Academy only offers continuing education courses once a year.  Register now to reserve a spot in the September 2018 courses in Green Bay.

If you are unable to attend the September courses, or need continuing education prior to September, the Wisconsin Caregiver Academy also offers online training through Ed2Go.
