A Message from our Outgoing Executive Director, Jamie Stark 

 

On July 29, I’ll officially become a Senior Advisor at Farming Hope, to be replaced in my old role by the astounding pair of Andie Sobrepeña and Kerry Rodgers as co-Executive Directors. 

Last month over the half wall of my office from the employee lockers, I heard an Apprentice talking on the phone. "I’m ambitious. I was ambitious on the streets. But now I’m working hard for a purpose. You just need the environment and the purpose."  I nearly teared up. As my time leading Farming Hope comes to a close, I am proud to be part of such environments, where purpose and solidarity come together to build belonging.
 

Now a new chapter of growth begins. Farming Hope’s top leadership could not possibly be in better hands with my colleagues’ twin promotion to co-Executive Director. Kerry, a friend of Farming Hope for years, founded a nonprofit and worked in corporate philanthropy, all with a visionary leadership style and laser focus on coaching and empowering people. Andie, our Operations Director, has run restaurants here in her hometown for 10 years, having built incredible ties to our neighbors and a toolkit of applicable skills too big to count.
 

I'll forever be a co-founder of this community. And I’ll still work here, part-time and remotely. I plan to move to Wisconsin for a bit to be with family and friends, then join my sweetie in Edinburg, Texas where she will attend grad school. 
 

I have been grateful to meet some of the most interesting people in the world in these six years.
 

José who taught me true hospitality; Ana Luisa our first customer; Bill Gorman my favorite gardener; Lisa Haut my west coast mom; Philip, magnetic at his highest highs and lowest lows; Cricket, my role model for compassion; Henresha, my bravest friend; inspiring teachers like Emma and Manny; Kevin, in every sense my brother; Bea, my spiritual sister; all the people who have called me crying or worried or curious, who trust Farming Hope to be where they can renew purpose and belonging.

 

If you are able, please attend my send off party, a Roast and Toast on Friday, July 29 from 5-7 pm at Refettorio San Francisco, at 149 Fell Street.
