Women's Gathering

Bethel's Quarterly Women's Gathering is scheduled for Saturday, January 6, 2018, 9 am - 1 pm. Our Theme is “The Gifts We Give Ourselves” with a focus on the topic of self-care. The day will begin with scripture and meditation, followed by the making of either bath salts or sachets to take home and enjoy. We will end with fellowship and lunch.

The women's team will provide chili and cornbread. We're asking participants to bring muffins or bagels for the morning OR a lunchtime dessert to share. Child care will be provided if needed. Please RSVP to Paige Unangst, text: 503-567-9946, email: paige@unangst.net by this Sunday.

Sunday Morning Discussion

Join us Sunday morning at 9:00 am for discussion and fellowship.

PGMC Special Music This Sunday

Twelve members of the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus will be singing “Dona Nobis Pacem,” “Let There Be Peace On Earth” and “Sure On This Shining Night” at Bethel Congregational United Church of Christ on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the 10 AM worship service. Three songs of peace and unity in times where these sentiments are so important; what a wonderful way to start off the New Year!

How Does Sunday School Work?

I know for new families (and old) it can be confusing when we have Sunday School, when we don't and what grades we are offering. Please take a few moments to read this article to hopefully answer many of your questions. Also, be sure to check the top of the calendar in the Highlights to know what is offered for the children on Sunday.

Our Nursery has grown and as a result, we have a number of Pre-K and Kinders who need more structure to their Sunday School time. As a result, we are changing our K-3 class to be PreK-1st grade. This class will meet every week under the leadership of Hannah Lindsey. Parents can work with me to determine when your child is ready to join this group (if they are under 5 years old) and when they are ready to be in the 2nd-5th grade Sunday School. We recognize that each child develops in their own time. ALL 5-year olds and older will need to attend this class rather than remain in the Nursery.

Our Grade School Sunday School (2nd-5th grade) and Teen group (6th-12th grade) will meet on Sunday School Sundays and will remain in service on Multi-generational Sundays.

Last Fall, the Teen group requested that they be able to discuss the various sermon series. We were certainly not going to argue with this request. Beginning this month, they will have the opportunity to discuss the sermons they hear on multi-generational Sundays as well as delve into the sermon series on Sunday School Sundays. In this way, they can better engage with the life of our church.

If you have any questions about what class your child belongs in or would like to help support our growing Sunday School program, please contact Beth.

Ladies' Lunch

Join us for the Ladies' Lunch every 2nd Monday of the month at 11:30 AM at McGrath's Fish House in Beaverton, 3211 SW Cedar Hills Blvd. All are welcome! Please RSVP to Susan Hanson if you plan to attend.

Practice Compassionate Communication

Every 2nd and 4th Mondays from 7-8:30 pm, a group of people meet in the Conference Room at Bethel to practice our compassionate communication (NVC) skills. Come and be a part of the fun as we practice and hone our compassionate listening ears. No matter your level of experience or whether you've attended a group in the past, you are welcome to join us. Our next meeting is Monday, January 8.

Bethel Bookies

The Bookies will meet Jan 16th at 10am in the Narthex Room.   We will be discussing the book we just read, which is "The Rosie Project" by Graeme Simsion. Remember to bring your books so they can be returned to the library. Join us even if you haven't read the book, we will be picking the book for the February reading. All are welcome.

Calling All Hockey Fans!

Put Sunday, January 21st, on your calendar for a thrilling Winterhawks hockey game with the Brandon Wheat Kings. To sign up for this outing, contact Jim Butler (jbcubsfan@msn.com) or, he will also have a signup sheet near the church entrance on Sundays.  This is a multigenerational event. Soren Knudsen is working behind the scenes to get a great deal on ticket prices for us. He'll have some adult price quotes in January. As always, kids are free. The Winterhawks are doing well this season. As of December 25, they have won 33 games. We'll meet at Bethel at 4:00 PM on the 21st and carpool to the stadium. See you there!.
