Alyssa Harding Joins Naturally Boulder's Board of Directors

Alyssa manages External Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility for Justin’s
Naturally Boulder is proud to welcome Alyssa Harding to our board of directors.  Alyssa manages External Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility for Justin’s. She has an educational foundation in Environmental Science and agricultural ecology, with an additional specialization and certificate in Corporate Social Responsibility. Before Justin’s, she worked in the environmental sector for water conservation non-profits and in the solar industry, and has published articles with PowerHouse Growers, educating readers about food security and urban agriculture.

Building off last year’s success, Naturally Boulder is once again partnering with Metro Caring with a total of 12 volunteer events this summer. As Denver's frontline anti-hunger organization, Metro Caring builds equity by nourishing neighbors, providing tools to thrive and fostering community. 1908 Brands Sells CompoKeeper to Rev-a-Shelf

Sale follows strategic focus on grocery industry
Boulder-based 1908 Brands sold CompoKeeper to Rev-a-Shelf as part of periodic assessment of the portfolio. 1908 Brands has decided to focus on food and grocery store brands, and the sale allows for a strategic focus on the grocery industry. CompoKeeper is the second of seven brands that 1908 Brands has either acquired or developed. The company acquired CompoKeeper in 2013 after the brand won the Naturally Boulder Pitch Slam. 

Bare Foods Acquired by PepsiCo

Deal to deliver on PepsiCo’s Performance with Purpose vision
San Francisco-based Bare Foods, a Naturally Boulder sponsor and the maker of baked fruit and vegetable snacks, was acquired by PepsiCo. The undisclosed transaction will expand the company's snacking portfolio and further deliver on PepsiCo’s Performance with Purpose vision to offer consumers more positive nutrition options. Upon closing, Bare Snacks will continue to operate independently from its headquarters in San Francisco with its leadership reporting into Frito-Lay North America. 

Soozy’s Closes Round Led by BIGR and AccelFoods

Investment fuels growth of best-for-you baked goods brand
New York-based Soozy’s announced it had closed a $2.5 million dollar round of funding. The round was led by Boulder-based BIGR Ventures and AccelFoods, with an additional two undisclosed angel investors from the CPG industry also taking part. Just under a year old, Soozy’s produces a line of grain-free, gluten-free frozen muffins that are sold in over 500 retailers, including HEB and Wegmans.

Firms Merge to Form Natural-Ingredients Production Company

Company will stay in Fort Collins
Fort Collins-based Solix Algredients Inc. is merging with the Beijing Gingko Group in China and its subsidiary, Algae Health Sciences in California, to supply ingredients sourced from nature to the nutrition, food and beverage, personal-care and feed markets. The new company, that has yet to be named, will be headquartered at 120 Commerce St. in Fort Collins, home of Solix Algredients. 

Yai’s Thai Closes Seed Investment Round with Atlas Capital Ventures

Company also reaches 2,500 points of distribution nationwide
Denver-based Yai’s Thai announced the recent closing of a seed investment round with Atlas Capital Ventures. The capital will enable the brand's ongoing expansion. Yai’s Thai has seen significant growth since rebranding and launching its line of Thai Coconut Curries and Thai Almond Sauce in early 2017, with over 4000% growth in the past 12 months and 2,500 points of distribution nationwide.

ONE Brands Launches Naturally Sweetened ONE Basix Protein Bars

New product line to hit stores soon
Boulder-based ONE Brands announced the retail launch of their latest innovation, ONE Basix Bars, a naturally sweetened line in three flavors: Cookie Dough Chocolate Chunk, Triple Chocolate Chunk and Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk. ONE Basix Bars will soon be hitting shelves at specialty retailers, including GNC and Vitamin Shoppe, and select gyms nationally.

BHAKTI Launches New Iced Chai Beverages

Ready-to-Drink Iced Chai made with cashewmilk
Boulder-based Bhakti introduced a line of ready-to-drink iced chai. Bhakti’s new line features cashewmilk in ready-to-drink iced chai beverages, available in 12-ounce, HDPE plastic, grab and go bottles. Flavors include Classic, Cold Brew Coffee “Dirty Chai”, Mocha, Sugar Free Toasted Coconut, and Reduced Sugar Classic. The new line hits stores nationwide this month. 

Little Secrets Launches New Product Line 

Company goes national with Whole Foods Market
Boulder-based Little Secrets announced the launch of a line of chocolate wafer and will roll out both of its product lines nationwide in retailer Whole Foods Market in June. The chocolate wafers will launch in dark chocolate, milk chocolate and peanut butter in 500 retailers nationwide. The new product line comes soon after the rebrand of its dark chocolate pieces line. 

Good Day Chocolate Introduces Line of Children’s Supplements

New line is an alternative to vitamin gummies
Boulder-based Good Day Chocolate, launched a new product line for kids, an alternative beyond vitamin gummies. New products include Multivitamin and Probiotic which support daily health and digestion wellness while Sleep and Calm provide sleep and anxiety relief. Products hit vitamin and supplement shelves nationwide at Target and are available online. 

Ancient inGRAINed Snack Launches First-to-Market 100% Ancient Grain Popped Chips

Ka-Pop! sourced from sorghum 
Boulder-based Ancient inGRAINed Snack Co, makers of Ka-Pop! Chips, announced the launch of the first-to-market, 100% Ancient Grain snack. Made with 100% U.S.-grown Ancient Grains including sorghum, Ka-Pop! Chips are available in four varieties: Olive Oil & Sea Salt; Rosemary & Garlic; Dairy-Free Cheddar; and Sea Salt & Vinegar. 

Alpine Start Launches Two New Flavors

Company rebrands to celebrate their growing product line
Boulder-based Alpine Start Foods launched two new flavors, Coconut Creamer Latte and Dirty Chai Latte, to its instant coffee lineup. The new flavors join the brand’s “instant” Original Blend, which disrupted the instant coffee category with refined taste and on-the-go innovation just one year ago. To celebrate the additions, Alpine Start Foods rebranded the entire line with a new logo and bright, colorful packaging reflecting the personalities of each flavor. 

Lucky’s Market to Open Denver-area Store this Summer

Expansion continues for Boulder natural foods grocer
Boulder-based Lucky’s Market will open its first store in the Denver-area in late July or August. The store will anchor The Corners at Wheat Ridge development at the corner of Wadsworth Boulevard and 38th Avenue. Lucky’s Market operates stores in South Boulder, North Boulder and Longmont, and overall has 28 stores in 11 states.

Cusa Tea Triples Market Expectations After First Year in Business

Company launches new flavor
Boulder-based Cusa Tea announced that its products are in 750 retailers and distributors, with plans to be in 500 new retailers during the second quarter of 2018. Since launching in May 2017, Cusa Tea can now be found nationwide in REI stores and is found locally at King Soopers, Lucky’s Markets, Denver locations of Safeway and other retailers. To celebrate a year in business, Cusa Tea is debuting its new flavor, Chai.

Keen One Quinoa Cups Expand Throughout Colorado Front Range

Quick cooking quinoa cups in over 130 stores in the past 6 weeks 
Boulder-based Keen One Quinoa has expanded its footprint with a new line of quick cooking quinoa cups in over 130 stores in the past 6 weeks, including King Soopers, Safeway, and Whole Foods Market. The new cups offer the convenience of traditional "Cup of Noodles" style meals with the benefits of nutritionally rich quinoa, hemp hearts, and vegetables. All products are certified organic and still made in Boulder.

Fourpoint Bar Increases Distribution

Plum and fig-based bar enters Safeway and Natural Grocers 
Denver-based Fourpoints Bar announced the expansion into Safeway and Natural Grocers. Initially designed for outdoor enthusiasts, the slow-burn energy bars have transitioned into the natural and conventional retail space with their launch into Safeway and Natural Grocers. 

Ardent Mills Highlights Grain-Based Pizza Trends  

Premium flours and grains bring upscale appeal to pizza menus 
Denver-based Ardent Mills shared ideas for using premium flours and grains to pizza following its attendance at the 2018 International Pizza Expo 2018. Ardent Mills showcased pizza flours, ancient and heirloom grains, as well as new products: crisped and IQF grains. Four pizzeria trends and ideas from Ardent Mills to watch include: pizza for better health, food trends in pizza format, better sides and extras, and dessert pizzas.

Local Retailers Capitalize on Shifting Landscape

Alfalfa’s Market and Lucky’s Market continue to invest locally
As Whole Foods steps back from local natural foods brands to focus on efficiency and increasing sales, Boulder County grocers are stepping up, doubling down on small business with new hires, programs and ambitious quotas. Alfalfa's Market, under new ownership, has set aside room in its Boulder offices for fledgling companies, an incubator of sorts that will provide a home base and access to mentors. The company also set a goal of carrying 5,000 local products in its stores, even as it plans to expand throughout the Front Range. While same-day turnaround for local goods is no longer realistic for Lucky’s Market, the grocer is still committed to helping local brands get off the ground.
