Alfalfa’s Market Sells to Denver Investors

New owners plan to expand the chain
Boulder-based Alfalfa’s Market sold to two Denver-based investors who plan to revamp the Boulder location and expand across the Front Range.  Founded in 1979 as Pearl Street Market, Alfalfa’s was an early natural and organic grocery.  New majority ownership is now with Lincoln Property Company and Alliance Bernstein. Financial terms of the private deal, including price and amount of shares sold, were not disclosed.

Louisville-based Door to Door Organics abruptly shut down recently, saying there was no way forward in a message to its customers posted on its website. Its website also referenced difficulties raising additional money.

Company keeps mission of transparency
Denver-based MM Local has changed its name to Farmhand Organics. The pioneering farm-to-fork brand is launching new packaging across all its certified organic product lines, beginning with its popular probiotic line of sauerkrauts and kimchis. The renamed Farmhand Organics has the same mission: its transparent relationship with certified organic farmers to make the highest quality farm-to-jar products for today’s conscious and health-driven consumers.

Boulder Food Group Sells Investment in Cold Brew Coffee Company

Chameleon Cold-Brew Coffee sold to Nestlé
Boulder-based Boulder Food Group, which invests in early-stage food and beverage companies, sold its investment in Chameleon Cold-Brew Coffee to Nestlé. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Chameleon Cold-Brew was founded in 2010 and sold more than four million bottles in 2016.

Farm & Oven Snacks Launches Bakery Bites

Former big food execs bake up veggie-infused bakery line
Food-industry veterans Kay Allison and Mike Senackerib launched Farm & Oven Snacks Inc., a Boulder-based maker of natural snacks.  The company’s first products, Bakery Bites, are mini soft bites loaded with one billion probiotics per serving and 40 percent of a person’s recommended daily vegetables. The Bites are launching with four SKUs — beet dark chocolate, zucchini lemon poppy seed, carrot cinnamon, and pumpkin maple pecan.

Boulder-based LoveTheWild expanded its contract with Amazon-owned Whole Foods Market in a new arrangement that will see the company’s offerings hitting the shelves of nearly all of the retailer’s 420-plus stores.  For LoveTheWild, the broadening of this partnership sends a message that the company’s mission is resonating with the market. The company also launched a Whole Foods-exclusive Salmon with Coconut Red Curry, featuring fish sourced from Norway.
