Alfalfa’s Market Sells to Denver Investors

New owners plan to expand the chain
Boulder-based Alfalfa’s Market sold to two Denver-based investors who plan to revamp the Boulder location and expand across the Front Range.  Founded in 1979 as Pearl Street Market, Alfalfa’s was an early natural and organic grocery.  New majority ownership is now with Lincoln Property Company and Alliance Bernstein. Financial terms of the private deal, including price and amount of shares sold, were not disclosed.

Door to Door Organics Abruptly Shuts Down

Note to customers references difficulty in raising money
Louisville-based Door to Door Organics abruptly shut down recently, saying there was no way forward in a message to its customers posted on its website. Its website also referenced difficulties raising additional money.

MM Local Changes Name to Farmhand Organics

Company keeps mission of transparency
Denver-based MM Local has changed its name to Farmhand Organics. The pioneering farm-to-fork brand is launching new packaging across all its certified organic product lines, beginning with its popular probiotic line of sauerkrauts and kimchis. The renamed Farmhand Organics has the same mission: its transparent relationship with certified organic farmers to make the highest quality farm-to-jar products for today’s conscious and health-driven consumers. 

Boulder Food Group Sells Investment in Cold Brew Coffee Company

Chameleon Cold-Brew Coffee sold to Nestlé
Boulder-based Boulder Food Group, which invests in early-stage food and beverage companies, sold its investment in Chameleon Cold-Brew Coffee to Nestlé. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Chameleon Cold-Brew was founded in 2010 and sold more than four million bottles in 2016.

bare snacks announced the launch of bare Organic Chia Coconut Bites, a spin on the snack leader’s line of bare Chia Coconut Bites.  bare Organic Chia Coconut Bites give consumers an organic superfood snack that combines the power of chia and coconut into one bite. In addition to touting USDA Organic certification, the crunchy new snacks are Non-GMO Project Verified, gluten-free, and contain no trans fats, added oils or preservatives.

Farm & Oven Snacks Launches Bakery Bites

Former big food execs bake up veggie-infused bakery line
Food-industry veterans Kay Allison and Mike Senackerib launched Farm & Oven Snacks Inc., a Boulder-based maker of natural snacks.  The company’s first products, Bakery Bites, are mini soft bites loaded with one billion probiotics per serving and 40 percent of a person’s recommended daily vegetables. The Bites are launching with four SKUs — beet dark chocolate, zucchini lemon poppy seed, carrot cinnamon, and pumpkin maple pecan.

EnerHealth Launches a Professional Line of Herbal Hemp Formulas

Helix Herbs formulated for wellness practitioners
Longmont-based EnerHealth Botanicals launched a new line, Helix Herbs, formulated for health professionals who practice holistic alternative and natural medicine methodologies. EnerHealth developed the practitioner line in response to the rising demand for wellness products made from hemp and the growth in alternative medicine.

LoveTheWild Scores Bigger Whole Foods Contract

Company launches exclusive Whole Foods salmon kit
Boulder-based LoveTheWild expanded its contract with Amazon-owned Whole Foods Market in a new arrangement that will see the company’s offerings hitting the shelves of nearly all of the retailer’s 420-plus stores.  For LoveTheWild, the broadening of this partnership sends a message that the company’s mission is resonating with the market. The company also launched a Whole Foods-exclusive Salmon with Coconut Red Curry, featuring fish sourced from Norway.

Rooster & Lark Expands in Lucky’s Markets

Company’s products now available in 16 states
Denver-based Rooster & Lark hit the shelves in 23 new Lucky’s Market locations.  The company’s three seasoned vegetable blends, designed to simplify breakfast, are now available in 16 states across the country with more stores coming soon.

Beyond Broth Now Available at Natural Grocers in Colorado and Beyond 

Stores offer all three flavors
Boulder-based Beyond Broth is now available in 10 Natural Grocers stores and is adding more stores weekly throughout the Rocky Mountain region, Arizona, Texas and North Dakota. All three of the brands' flavors are available, including Immune, Vitality and Yummy Tummy in single-servings as well as sleeves of 18. 

Bhakti Hires Powerhouse Sales Duo

Boulder-based Bhakti announced the addition of two respected beverage sales leaders: Melanie Knitzer joins as VP of Sales; Becca Ray joins as Director of Sales. This duo comes to Bhakti most recently from Q Drinks.

Two Boulder Companies Blaze Path in Healthy Beverage Market

Boulder-based Ethan’s and Boulder-based Red Ace Organics are ushering in the latest trend in healthy beverages: wellness shots. Less sugary than kombucha, smaller than cold brew coffee, and more nutrient dense than coconut water, these small doses have slowly begun filling shelves in the supplement section at many retailers. Ethan's is focused on apple cider vinegar, while Red Ace Organics focuses on beet juice.
