Bhakti Secures $5.1 Million Investment 

Investment to spur innovation, staffing, distribution
Boulder-based Bhakti secured a $5.1 million Series B round of funding led by strategic investment firm Cleveland Avenue.  Funding will be used to focus on innovation, staffing and distribution into new retail channels, specifically conventional grocery.

Jackson's Honest Receives $1.25 Million Investment on "Shark Tank"

Boulder-based Jackson's Honest landed a $1.25 million investment on ABC's "Shark Tank," which aired October 1.  Entrepreneurs Scott and Megan Reamer created a healthy chip their son, Jackson, could eat. Jackson tragically passed away recently at age 16 from complications of Aicardi–Goutières syndrome, just after the the Reamers filmed part of their "Shark Tank" appearance. The business, founded in 2012, reached $10 million in revenue last year selling all-natural, coconut oil-cooked potato and tortilla chips.  But Scott and Megan certainly weren't thinking about building a company when they made their first batch of chips.  They created the snack while experimenting with food to help lessen the symptoms of the rare and incurable auto-immune disease afflicting Jackson.

USDA Closes Aurora Organic Dairy Investigation

USDA affirms the company is producing milk within organic product regulations
The USDA has closed an investigation into Boulder-based Aurora Organic Dairy and affirmed that the company is producing milk within existing organic product regulations.  The dairy was the subject of a complaint from Wisconsin-based organic watchdog organization The Cornucopia Institute and was also the subject of a Washington Post investigation earlier this year. However, the UDSA has "determined that Aurora’s livestock and pasture management practices comply with existing USDA organic regulations and NOP (National Organic Program) policies.” Betsy Rakola, the director of enforcement for the National Organic Program at USDA, wrote in a letter to Aurora that the case has been closed.

So Delicious Dairy Free Launches Shreds

Broomfield-based So Delicious Dairy Free has launched a line of dairy-free cheese items. New So Delicious Shreds are gluten-free, dairy-free, soy free, vegan, and Non-GMO Project verified. Created with organic coconut milk, Shreds are available in three flavors.

Skratch Labs Launches Anytime Energy Bars

New product gives athletes convenient portable foods

Boulder-based Skratch Labs is moving further into food with its newest product line: Anytime Energy bars. The new line, like Skratch Labs’ hydration products, uses real fruit and contain no artificial colors or preservatives. Available in almond chocolate chip, cherry pistachio and ginger miso, the bars are gluten-free, vegan and made with non-GMO ingredients.


Pact Apparel Launches Organic Cotton Baby and Toddler Lines

New lines are without harmful chemicals or dyes
Boulder-based Pact Apparel added two new collections within its lineup of sustainable apparel. The new lines offer sustainable and ethical options for parents looking for affordable, soft, quality children's clothing without harmful chemicals or dyes. The Baby and Toddler lines are a direct response to customer feedback.

Lucky's Market Adds Fort Collins Location

Opening date not yet finalized
Niwot-based Lucky’s Market will open a store in downtown Fort Collins. Opening date and other logistics are still being finalized.  Just over a year ago, Kroger made a significant investment in Lucky's Market, allowing it to grow more rapidly in new and existing markets.

Pharmaca Opens Two New Locations
Natural pharmacy now in six states

Boulder-based Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy has added two new locations, both through acquisition.  A new store in Beverly Hills marks the company’s third California location.  Pharmaca also opened its first store in Chicago.  The new stores bring Pharmaca’s footprint to 30 locations in Colorado, California, Illinois, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington.

Rowdy Mermaid Increases Distribution

Kombucha brand enters King Soopers and Rayback Collective 
Boulder-based Rowdy Mermaid Kombucha expanded distribution into 50 King Soopers stores and a tasting room at Rayback Collective.  The company plans to enter Natural Grocers, Whole Foods, as well as a 110-store unnamed grocery chain. To keep up with demand Rowdy Mermaid expanded twice this year, first going from 900 square feet to 6,000 and then adding another 6,000 square feet in May.

Door to Door Organics Launches New Meal Planning Solution 

Company aims at simplifying meal planning
Louisville-based Door to Door Organics announced the launch of a new meal planning service in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., with a rollout across the rest of the company’s delivery footprint planned for October.  Customers are introduced to a variety of simple recipe ideas inspired by the items in their cart and are given the ability to add additional items they might need to complete the recipe.

Avocet Communications Launches Integrate & Ignite

Podcast highlights natural products industry
Longmont-based Avocet Communications launched Integrate & Ignite, a twice-weekly podcast featuring a collection of interviews with some of Boulder’s most innovative entrepreneurs in the natural and organic food industry, as well as founders and representatives of several Colorado startup ventures and accelerators.

Chobani Announces New Food Incubator Class

LoveTheWild chosen for its disruption of the seafood industry
New York-based Chobani announced the selection of seven new food startups to join the second class of the Chobani Food Incubator.  The group is comprised of companies disrupting, innovating, and inspiring new food categories in the U.S.  Among those selected is Boulder-based LoveTheWild, which is on a mission to change the way Americans view seafood.

Know Brainer Wins at New Hope’s Natural Products Expo East Pitch Slam
Ketogenic butter coffee creamer takes top prize

Boulder-based Know Brainer ketogenic butter coffee creamers took top honors at the Natural Products Expo East Pitch Slam Competition.  This was Know Brainer’s nationwide industry debut and they won on the merits of best product innovation, branding and relevance to the marketplace. The company was awarded a grand prize package of services worth over $59,500.

Linda Appel Lipsius Named Among The Most Innovative Women in Food
Teatulia’s co-founder and CEO spotlighted in Food & Wine

Linda Appel Lipsius, co-founder and CEO of Denver-based Teatulia, has been named one of the most innovative women in food and drink by Food & Wine publication. Lipsius has helped Teatulia reach a lot of firsts: the company is the first to import tea to the U.S. from Bangladesh, the first to receive USDA-certified organic status in Bangladesh, and more.

Conference supports the food allergy community
