Tell your MP and PM to bail out Oil Workers not Tar Sands companies
Dear <<First Name>>
Big Oil is moving quickly to take advantage of the coronavirus crisis to extract even more concessions from the Canadian government in the form of bailout money to support their dying industry. Let's take advantage of this moment to propose a different bailout. A bailout that supports workers, not companies. A bailout that can accelerate the transition to an economy based on renewable energy sources.
Tell our government to stop wasting tax dollars on a dying industry, and instead use it to retrain oil workers. About $1.8 billion per year, for 10 years, would give every Alberta oil worker a $60,000/year income (the average in Alberta) AND pay for 2 years of community college retraining. (In fact, many of these workers could transfer with no retraining). To put this into perspective, Kenney has just promised $6.5 billion to get the Keystone XL pipeline built.
We must do what we can to stop them. Write your Member of Parliament and Prime Minister Trudeau, with copies to the leaders of all the opposition parties, asking them to fund the transition to a sustainable renewable energy economy.
