March News Update

Dear <<First Name>>

Before Covid struck we found ourselves getting to be too many people trying to do too much. We needed to get more organized, so we made two changes: we set up some Committees to get things done; we better defined what it means to be a Member and we reached out to get new people involved in an effort to take more effective climate action at this critical juncture in human history.

Membership

A Member is someone who wants to be involved beyond reading our newsletter, perhaps helping on one of our committees, or helping at events when we can have them again. To become a member visit this page on our web site, read what it means and fill out the form. Membership is free, but the benefit for you is the chance to work with others on an issue where we all share a passion to make change.

Committees

The committees are: Event Planning, Communications and Public Relations, Governance and Membership, and Political Action. You can read more about what each of these committees does at this page on our web site. If one of these interests you please mention it on your Membership Form.

Action of the Month

Bill C-!2, Canada's Climate Accountability Act is a step in the right direction, but it does not go far enough. For our Action of the Month we are borrowing from For Our Kids, an affiliated organization who have all the details laid out in their action of the month from February. Don't worry, though, it's not too late to have an influence on this bill and pressure the government to make it into the Accountability Act that we need.

See the details of the Action of the Month here on the For Our Kids web site. .

Hopeful News Story of the Month

A growing number of cities in the United States are choosing to transition to 100% clean energy – and dozens have already hit that target – while the list of states committed to a 100% renewable energy future also continues to grow. This local and state demand has contributed to a near doubling of renewable energy generation since 2008.

Clean energy communities are finding that the benefits of switching to renewable energy include local job creation, clean air, and resilience.

Alarming News Story of the Month

UN Climate Change published a synthesis of climate action ambition as contained in countries’ new or updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

This indicates that nations must redouble their climate efforts if they are to reach the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global temperature rise by 2C—ideally 1.5C—by the end of the century.
