Mika Zimbalist Memorial Fund

The Zimbalist family and Green Lake Elementary School community want to honor and celebrate Mika and the joy he brought to all of us. The GLES PTA has established this fund on behalf of the family to create a memorial in his honor while serving the school and community that he loved.

We are honored to be working with the family on this memorial and will notify you upon its completion.

STEM Night

GLES STEM Night is Coming Soon!

Thursday March 7, 6:00 - 7:30pm in the Cafetorium
Time to start creating, exploring, researching, testing, and having fun with learning.

Online Sign Up Form (deadline to sign up is today, 2/26): Link to http://bit.ly/gles-stem-night-sign-up

  • Work by yourself, with your family, or form a team (teams of 2-4 are preferable).
  • Investigate a science/tech/engineering/math (STEM) question that interests you, and prepare a display board to show the results of your work.
  • Come for a Poster Prep Session on Thursday February 28 from 4-6pm in the Cafetorium (Poster-making supplies provided for $5/team pay-if-you-can contribution)
  • Click below to review guidelines and get further information

There are a lot of online resources for inspirations, ideas, and board design suggestions. We encourage this project to be student-driven!

Some guidelines to remember for your project:

  • Work by yourself, with your family, or form a team. Teams of 2–4 are preferable due to limited presentation space.
  • Prepare a display board to show the results of your work following scientific/engineering methods. A tri-fold board is preferred; these can be found at most office supply or art stores. Please keep in mind the limited display space.
  • Label your project/display board clearly with your name(s), grade(s), and topic.
  • Display space for your project is limited to 3' high x 3' wide x 2' deep.
  • Please note that NO toxic or flammable chemicals, flames or sharp objects are allowed.
  • Please note on the sign-up form if you need access to something such as electricity.
  • Set up your project at 5:45 pm on Thursday, March 7th in the Cafetorium.
  • Students who create a project will be entered into the raffle drawing automatically. Students who don’t create a project but attend the event will receive 1 entry. (Students need to be accompanied by an adult.)
  • Plan to be near your project from 6:00–7:15 pm to help explain it to friends and family. If working as a team, your project should be manned by at least one team member throughout this period (while other members of the group view the other exhibits). Additional raffle tickets will be given to individuals and teams who are present at their board to answer questions for the whole hour.
  • Ensure that any liquids that are part of your display are adequately contained. It will be your responsibility to clean up spills.
  • Please let Ms. Allen in the office know if financial assistance is needed to complete your project.
The PTA runs this event with your volunteer help! Email the coordinators if you can lend a hand. We need 2–4 people to help set up at 2:30 or 3:00 on March 7th, 4 people to help during the event (pass out raffle tickets, pass out cookies, direct people), and 4–6 people to help clean up at 7:30 pm (put tables back, make sure everything is cleaned up).

Get in touch with STEM Night organizers if you can help set up, clean up, or give out prizes at STEM Night! deanystevens@me.com or kimberlybdecker@gmail.com

Arts

A Magician is coming, this Friday!

A magician is coming to perform for the entire school at this Friday's assembly. The GLES PTA is delighted to bring back Seattle-based, Award-Winning Nate Jester for another stunning performance. Last year, the kids were enthralled by Nate’s tricks… and many were brought on stage to assist with his acts. We are excited and eager to see what Nate has in store for us during this second visit.  The performance will take place from 8:15am - 9:15am. Parents, families come join us!
