Welcome to The Emergency Medicine Family!

Every September, residency programs across the UAE welcome their new batch of residents- and our emergency medicine family is no different! More and more fresh minds are taking an interest in the field of EM, bringing their enthusiasm and eagerness to the emergency department. With the growing number of patients and diversity of pathologies encountered in the ED, EM training provides endless opportunities for budding physicians. We are ecstatic to have them join us, and wish them a journey full of excitement and success throughout their training and beyond.

ESEM Participates in PATOS

The Pan-Asian Trauma Outcomes Study (PATOS) was proposed in 2013 and initiated in November 2015 to establish a collaborative standardized study to measure the capabilities, processes and outcomes of trauma care throughout Asia. The PATOS is an international, multi-center, observational research network to collect trauma cases transported by emergency medical services (EMS) providers.

Dr Omar Ghazanfar, from Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, represented ESEM at the 8th PATOS Workshop 2022 at the Seoul National University Hospital, Korea. The workshop focused on the development of trauma education endeavors in the pre-hospital and in-hospital sectors. In his talk, Dr Ghazanfar highlighted the evolution of the trauma system in the UAE, the establishment of a trauma registry, the Department of Health (DOH) and Harvard collaboration and the setting up of multiple training centers across the UAE to improve the provision of trauma care. The Abu Dhabi Trauma registry is now part of the PATOS database. Committed to further augmenting the rapid growth of EM in the region, ESEM is proud to participate in this collaboration and endeavors to bolster the quality of trauma education and research.
