Good morning!

The number of out of office emails we've been receiving from you all is good – it means you're taking some time away to recharge! I hope that continues and you're able to reset. Please note: this edition of Monday Memo is short and sweet and there will be no edition sent next week. Our regularly scheduled communication will be back again on Monday, July 12.

If you haven't done so already, please don't forget to renew your MASA membership for the 2021-22 school year. Can't find the email or need help? Please contact Danielle Bach and she will be able to take care of you!

Lastly, Fall Conference registration and hotel availability at Grand Traverse are filling up quickly. Be sure to get your registration in and make your hotel arrangements ASAP. We can't wait to see you in September!

As always, take care and let us know how MASA can help!

Episode 2 Now Available!
Listen in to hear from Craig Carmoney, Kevin Polston, and Brandy Johnson about the creation of the MI Blueprint, how education leaders can operationalize these recommendations, and ultimately, how we can go from surviving to thriving in a post-pandemic education landscape.

MASA Fall Conference – Call for RFPs

Has your district/organization had an intense focus on student and staff wellness during the pandemic? Do have experience attracting and retaining top talent? How is your team using CARES funding in the new school year? These are just a few examples of topics we plan to cover at the 2021 Fall Conference this September. We’re looking for forward-thinking presenters who will inspire excellence in our public school leaders at this annual event.

Submit a proposal and you may be selected to speak at MASA's conference, September 22-24, 2021, at the Grand Traverse Resort in Traverse City.

Proposals will be accepted based on their connection to the conference theme: “From Surviving to Thriving: Operationalizing Michigan’s Blueprint for Student Recovery.”

Sessions should focus on:

• Student and staff wellness
• Academics
• School climate
• Family and community engagement
• Postsecondary education
• Adequate, equitable funding
• Consistent funding
• Attracting and retaining top talent
• Innovation in teaching & learning
• Universal Pre-K

The strongest proposals are those that involve an MASA member and/or practitioners from a district or ISD/RESA. Learning Sessions will be held on Thursday, September 23. Please include at least three attendee takeaways from your session.

To submit a proposal for a Learning Session, fill out the RFP form and submit it no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, July 16, 2021. You will receive a confirmation email once you have successfully submitted your proposal. Those accepted will be notified between August 6 and August 9, 2021.

MDE Memos and Information

Reminder: Section 98a – Extended COVID-19 Learning Plan Reporting Reminders

As required in MCL 388.1698a(4), districts providing instruction under an extended COVID-19 learning plan shall create a report no later than the last day of school that includes the progress made in meeting the educational goals described in subsection (1) [of MCL 388.1698a] that the district expected would be achieved by the end of the school year. Districts must also ensure that the report can be accessed through the transparency reporting link located on the district’s website.

Reminder: MDE Launches Welcome Back Proud Michigan Educators Campaign

The Welcome Back Proud Michigan Educators campaign helps educators with expired credentials return to teaching by reducing or eliminating professional learning recertification requirements. The campaign recognizes these educators' experience and preparation while providing an opportunity for immediate employment.  Districts interested in receiving contact information for educators that express interest in employment through the Welcome Back PME campaign should complete this contact information request form.

Districts are also encouraged to post the campaign logo on their employment webpage as a participation indicator to applicants.  Please visit the Welcome Back Proud Michigan Educators web site for FAQ and more program information: Welcome Back Proud Michigan Educators website.
