NEWSLETTER : 18th October 2019

Hello everyone,

Those of you who have ever attended a music concert, watched any sort of drama on the television, enjoyed a film at the cinema, been to a disco!, sung in a choir or listened to the 'top 40' on the radio will understand the power of music and its ability to transform a situation, enhancing and heightening mood.

Many of us will have also experienced moments when, listening to a piece of music we are suddenly transported back in time, triggering a long forgotten memory and perhaps a moment of pure nostalgia, a sense of almost being back at that time, at that place.

Music is very important to us at Tibbs Dementia Foundation, indeed it was one of the main reasons for setting up our wonderful charity. The principles we apply at Music 4 Memory of inclusivity, that everyone plays a role and brings great value, that nothing is wrong and communication and self expression can take many forms are central tenets of all we do and all we are about.

As many of you know our suite of Music 4 Memory services are all led by a qualified music therapist, Jeni, Alison and Rory (who we are pleased has recently joined us). Every session is run to the high standards that music therapy dictates and although many of our groups are relaxed and community based in nature the principles of music therapy underpin everything which helps to support and encourage the inclusive atmosphere and the confidence that we can all 'be ourselves' and find means of expression and emotional release in ways we may not have thought possible.

There are music therapists working across the Country delivering innovative and creative ways of working with people with dementia, families and the wider community. Excitingly  practitioners and groups such as ours are now able to share their fantastic practice and build up a growing body of evidence for the efficacy of the power of music for individuals and communities  with the launch of 'Music for Dementia 2020'. This is a campaign to build a musical map showing all the different musical opportunities for people with dementia across the country as well as hints and tips for setting up groups and developing practice.

This is wonderful news and of course we've signed up!! Click on the link and you'll be able to see our contribution  https://mfd2020.co.uk/provider/70  You can also easily access a short video created by the Philharmonia Orchestra showcasing our Hear and Now project a couple of years ago.

You may be aware that we are about to embark of our next intergenerational collaboration with the Philharmonia Orchestra and Fusion Youth choir, our tenth year of working together, sharing, growing and having fun. You will see further details about this transformative project further in the newsletter. Please do consider getting involved, drop into a workshop, be a regular participant and performer, support us from the audience, but do come and experience for yourself the magical power of music.

Thank you....

A huge thank you to the boys of Howard House Prep School at Bedford School for an impressive fundraising campaign and for choosing to support Tibbs Dementia Foundation. The boys raised £3208.12 and we are extremely grateful for their efforts and generosity.

Margaret Duggan represented Tibbs Dementia in her role of trustee in accepting the cheque on our behalf and delivering a short talk to the boys about our work.

 With best wishes

Sarah Russell, CEO

Community Fundraiser

We are offering an exciting opportunity to develop the impact of Tibbs Dementia Foundation, the main local provider of dementia services.

We are seeking to recruit a dynamic community fundraiser to become part of our committed, friendly team as we work together to help build a better future for people with dementia.

We provide a wide range of innovative services and activities across the Bedford area and as recipients of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services we know we provide a quality service.

In order to continue to deliver and develop our excellent range of services we are looking to recruit a community fundraiser who can help us boost our income whilst strengthening and extending our links and partnerships within the wider community.

If you’d like to be part of our great charity, working with a fantastic team making a positive difference everyday. Email Lisa.Diiorio@tibbsdementia.co.uk  or phone 01234 210993 for an application pack..

Closing date 9.00am 11th November. Interviews during week commencing 18th November 2019.
