Node.js Mentorship Working Group

Did you know that Node.js Project has a group that works on connecting seasoned Node.js developers and community members with folks wanting to learn more? It’s true, we have one! The goal of the Mentorship Working Group is to bring more contributors to Node.js Project by mentoring people about the Node.js ecosystem, helping them contribute to Node.js, championing their PRs through code reviews, and providing guidance.


Introducing Node.js 12

We recently announced Node.js v 12. Highlighted updates and features include faster startup and better default heap limits, updates to V8, TLS, llhttp, new features including diagnostic report, bundled heap dump capability and updates to Worker Threads, N-API and ES6 module support and more. The Node.js 12 release replaces version 11 in our current release line. The Node.js release line will become a Node.js Long Term Support (LTS) release in Oct 2019 (more details on LTS strategy here).


Announcing a new  -- experimental-modules

Back in 2017, Node.js 8.9.0 shipped experimental support for ECMAScript modules, known for their import and export statements. This support was behind the flag --experimental-modules.


New Features Bring Native Add-ons Close To Being On Par With JS Modules

Node.js provides a wide variety of extremely useful APIs for accomplishing the work of an application via its built-in modules such as fs, http, net, and many others. All these modules execute native code when called from JavaScript. This is how they provide their functionality. The native C/C++ code for these modules is compiled into and shipped with Node.js.
