Updated Awareness & Training Resources for Back to School 2022

Did you know that local educational agency homeless liaisons have ten specific duties under federal law, one of which is to provide professional development and other support to school personnel?

Effective training for school personnel on homelessness is especially important in light of the impact of the pandemic, and the current economic and housing crises. Additional outreach and support will be necessary to ensure that children and youth experiencing homelessness are identified, enrolled, re-engaged, and supported.

We’ve updated and refreshed our awareness and training resources, including:

  • Flyers and Infographics
  • Public Service Announcements (PSAs)
  • Customizable Powerpoint Presentations
  • American Rescue Plan Tools and Resources
  • Email Templates
  • Tools for Specific School Staff
  • Short Legal Summaries
  • Sample Materials from Local School Districts
  • Youth Connection Resources
  • Spanish Language Resources
  • Q&A From Our Inbox
  • Directory of State Homeless Education Coordinators and Local Homeless Liaisons
  • Videos
  • Supplemental Resources

SchoolHouse Connection’s Fall Professional Development and Training Webinar Series

SHC is offering a new webinar series designed for school and district staff who want to learn more about the basics of the McKinney-Vento Act’s rights and protections, and best practices for serving children and youth experiencing homelessness.

Each 90-minute session will offer a combination of presentation, Q&A, and interactive breakout sessions (organized by state or district) to help attendees start to apply the information learned in small peer groups. Participants will receive access to materials and a certificate of completion.

These trainings are designed to cover the basics of the McKinney-Vento Act and identification and are ideal for liaisons to share with a wide range of educators and school personnel. We plan to offer these sessions each quarter throughout the school year, so if you and your staff cannot attend one date, please know there will be more to come!
