Happy 2018 fellow Richmond District neighbors!

Did you hear? 2017 kicked off the age of the YIMBY and we couldn’t agree more!

We scored some important victories at both the city and state level including:

  1. We supported 95 new homes at places like the Lucky Penny site.
  2. We cheered on our friend Sonja Trauss who has embarked on her candidacy for District 6 Supervisor.
  3. YIMBY Action initiated a ballot prop to speed up affordable and teacher housing production in San Francisco
  4. State Senator Scott Wiener championed housing at the state level by passing bills like SB35.
  5. We helped pass a local density bonus (HOME-SF) at the Board of Supervisors.

And we're just getting started

In 2018, it’s more important than ever we push to make our our neighborhood more equitable along with our city, region, and state. Here in the Richmond District we have lots of work to do to create the kind of neighborhood that is truly livable and welcoming for current and future residents. Other neighborhoods have responded by building more homes to alleviate our severe housing shortage. We have a responsibility to do our part here as well.

Here’s how you can help. Reach out to Supervisor Fewer and let her know you are a member of Grow The Richmond. Ask her what she plans to do to support new housing in our neighborhood similar to projects like the Lucky Penny and 3330 Geary Blvd. Raise your voice and let her know many of us here in the Richmond want to do our part to support our city by welcoming more new neighbors and that means building more housing!

Here are other ways you can get involved in the coming days and weeks!

  1. Get certified on January 7th, 2018 from 11am to 12pm for Signature Gathering in the Richmond to help get the teacher housing proposition on the June ballot. We can’t do it without you!

  2. Join fellow Grow The Richmond members at Assemblyman Phil Ting's Community Coffee event on January 9th from 6 to 7:30pm and ask him about what legislation he plans to author to ease the housing shortage.
  3. Attend the first Grow The Richmond Happy Hour of 2018 on Thursday, January 18th from 6:30pm to 8:30 pm at Richmond Republic Draught House

We look forward to seeing you soon!
