Learn and Serve Day
Prairie Habitat at Marywood - August 28
We welcome volunteers on Wednesday, August 28, 10 am–noon, to the Prairie Habitat at Marywood for another, what we hope will be, enjoyable Learn and Serve session. We plan a tour of the garden noticing recent and surprising blossoms. We'll compare tall tickseed plants that were cut back in June with those that were not trimmed. Similarly, we'll compare the cup plants.
A couple of problem areas: something is attacking milkweed plants; recent appearance of Johnsongrass (or something similar) and recommended ways to reduce it organically. Hands-on work planned: watering new plants found in six sections; for those dressed in jungle gear, pull/cut aggressive Gaura; cutting back certain grasses and plants that are crowding out minority plants, weeding.
Helpful tools: clippers, a couple more watering cans, trowel, kneeling pad. As usual hats, water bottles, long pants, and long-sleeved shirt are recommended. As always, we are very grateful for whomever can join us.
