In the beginning...
Wait a minute! Can I honestly speak of the beginning or just of what I am conscious of? Or my experience on this dimensional or worldly plain or what I can recollect? Is it fair to limit the story of Soul de Cuba Cafe to the creation, operations and expansion plans of its business without sharing the history of the movement that began long before the business started?
The goal of this newsletter is to generate inspiration from the story of Soul De Cuba Cafe. However, I find myself incapable of this task without sharing the story of my life and the lives and communities that I am connected to along with my intuition and vision for where this collective experience will take us.
As I sit here contemplating the future of the enormous task of sharing this story one restaurant at a time, city by city, across the globe; I am drawn into the conscious of my late great grandfather Santiago Gonzalez, a cigar roller and bread maker. Drawing from my assumptions about his vision, I have the privilege three generations later to be able to share the how and why of his migration from Havana Cuba to Tampa Bay, Florida.
I will embark on this task in hopes to enlighten, inspire and inform our readers. Along this journey I will also serve the 3rd goal of all who are sworn in to the Peace Corps. I was in Samoa in September 1998, which is to bring knowledge and understanding gained from my service abroad, home to share with my fellow Americans. Hospitality is an essential ingredient of Peace so I humbly implore you to stick around and enjoy the adventure with me...
