Season's greetings from members, staff, Trustees, Advisers, Vice-Presidents and the President of St Andrew's Club.
Dear Friend of St Andrew's Club

As 2016 draws to a close, I am delighted to introduce the first e-newsletter in St Andrew's Club 150 year history. These will only be sent occasionally and will help us keep you updated on our work in a cost-effective, and we hope, interesting way. My thanks to Stephanie, 17 year old Club member who has designed the Christmas image above.

The Club has enjoyed an amazing 150th year, highlights of which are detailed below. None of these achievements would have been possible without interest and support from so many generous donors. Together, you enable over 700 members each year to benefit from all the wide, varied and fun activities this precious community asset has to offer, here in the heart of Westminster. Thank you.

Our 150 year celebrations will continue next year until we turn 151 on 30th November 2017! Do let us know how you prefer to be contacted to keep you in touch with our news and events. I hope you will forgive us if over 150 years, some of our contact information is outdated. You can easily update your preferences at the bottom of this email.

Thank you once again and may I wish you a happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year.

John Selborne

The Earl of Selborne GBE FRS DL

The history of St Andrew's Club and the youth movement
We are grateful to the Heritage Lottery Fund for their immense support of the work of the Club's heritage research and archive. This has culminated in a video charting the Club's history alongside the development of Britain's modern youth movement, an exhibition "From Boys’ Clubs to Youth Clubs," and an interactive Heritage section of the website.
On Tuesday 12th July David Cameron hosted his last reception as Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street for St Andrew's Club. He met members, volunteers, supporters and staff of the Club. The event provided an opportunity to highlight the valuable youth and community work done by St Andrew's over 150 years. Read the full story here.

The Chronicle, first published in 1883, is back in print. It is full of news and activities at the Club, articles by members and former members. Although no substitute for a visit, The Chronicle gives a good flavour of life at the Club.  If you would like a paper copy mailed to you, or would like to arrange a visit, do let us know at info@standrewsclub.com. You can read The Chronicle October issue in full here and all the old editions are archived in the heritage section of the website.
Thanks to the generosity of The Very Reverend Dr John Hall, Dean of Westminster and a Vice-President of St Andrew's Club, on 29th November, the eve of St Andrew’s Day, the Club had a very special reception in the Jerusalem Chamber following a beautiful Evensong, in which a prayer for the work of the Club over the last 150 years was said. The annual President’s Reception guests previewed the Club’s 150th anniversary exhibition ‘From Boys’ Clubs to Youth Clubs.’ After hearing from Ramsey, a former member and now a successful cameraman at Sky News about how St Andrew’s had helped him. Cllr Steve Summers, Lord Mayor of Westminster endorsed this by saying: “I can’t imagine how many lives St Andrew’s Club has changed in the course of 150 years.” Read the full story here.

A major achievement for the Club this year is to have earned the London Youth Quality Mark Bronze Level. This level is about policy and procedure. It demonstrates that we meet all legal requirements and have good youth work practice. Now we are spurred on to work towards the Silver Quality Mark, which focuses on the opportunities we offer our young people through their involvement in helping to run our Club as well as the opportunities and training we give to our staff and volunteers.
