More Stuff...or More Meaning?
News from Joanne Sorenson, Trip Coordinator

Business entrepreneur Christine Kane writes ”…when I started a company, it did get successful. I found myself in circles with people who were running multimillion dollar businesses, some of whom had several homes, private jets and other assorted goodies. Also, some of my close colleagues were now spending millions on their homes, posting photos on social media, and entertaining clients very publicly.

That’s when the pressure started. It wasn’t blatant pressure. No one was telling me to do it. It was just one of those “This is what you’re supposed to do, right?” kind of things. Time to get a big new shiny house and play the part of the successful entrepreneur.

In a culture that trains you to consume from the day you are old enough to say “Mine” – it’s often easier to just do what’s expected of you. Get more stuff. After all, “If some is good, more is better.” "

Kane decided to follow a “different drummer”. Instead of “getting more” she now advocates to “Know Yourself” and to “Know what Matters”.

I have never had “excess” income, but I have always had enough. I cannot imagine my life consumed with options about how to amass more, how to make more. One thing I do know, and that Kane seems to have discovered, is to find what matters most and follow - serving the world - giving love and joy to others - taking from our spiritual and financial wealth and sharing - these are the life actions that MATTER. These activities are what bring joy and meaning.

“IN OUR HANDS” intends to be a place where others can share meaning, following their hearts towards what really matters. Consider signing up for the August adventure to Pine Ridge. Do you have a group that would like to create a serving adventure together? Let me know! I would enjoy helping you plan an experience of service and meaning.
“IN OUR HANDS” offers a new “twist” in serving.
An opportunity to make a difference in the world AT THE SAME TIME as friendship making, recreating, gaining a new perspective....this might just be for YOU! This may be the jump start for your new idea - bringing energy for the next turn in the road.

April 30 - May 4, 2017 (full)
August 27-31, 2017
Our first trip “BUILDING HOPE” - a journey to Pine Ridge reservation - is full. A second trip has been added - August 27-31, 2017.
The Lakota/Oglala People of Pine Ridge Reservation have lived under the cloud of hopelessness for many years. However, viewed with the proper lenses there are many signs of hope!

Travel to Pine Ridge, South Dakota to see the signs, understand the challenges, and consider the place of faith within native traditions. During our days we will participate in a service project, hear from Community Developer “Thunder Valley”, and visit the Oglala Lakota College and art center. Pastor Kay Ressell at the Retreat Center will help us understand how serving changes US in the process. Our discussion time each day will help us to see with new eyes, and leave with renewed hope to face the paths we walk.

"Creating Your Vision" Workshop

April 1, 2017 - Eau Claire, WI
(please note date change from previous newsletter)

Do you have...
  • A dream that wants to live?
  • A business you’ve always wanted to start?
  • Artwork that awaits completion?
  • Projects that long for your attention?
Most of us never make the time to do this...we let our busy, distracted lives keep us unfocused.

I’d like to help you change that.

Come and join your friends in the very first “Creating Your Vision” workshop - a full-day immersion to focus on your dream, your ideal outcomes, and your heart’s desires! This will be an AMAZING DAY of discovery, community-building, and listening to our deepest hearts. Together, we will listen to our deepest hearts, create a VISION BOARD, and take the NEXT STEPS to making the dream a reality!

So, what is a Vision Board? You select images and words from magazines and paste them on a big poster board. It’s pretty simple...yet it’s also a powerful tool that helps align your brain with the outcomes you most want to attract. It worked for me, and I'd like to help you discover how it will work for you!

Date and Location:
  • April 1
Deb’s Cafe on Hwy 53 north of Eau Claire
    9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Registration fees:
  • $50.00 per person
  • $40.00 per person if two or more are registering together

There is a 20 person limit per workshop so make sure you sign up today!

Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper? THIS grasshopper, I mean -
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down -
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open,
and floats away.
I don’t know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
With your one wild and precious life?

The Future is IN OUR HANDS to create a better world for all humanity. We are people of many life philosophies, serving the world together, and learning from one another.
